Spent my Sunday running around Jogyesa Temple and Jongno snapping shots of the International Lotus Lantern Festival. Couldn’t help but notice that the International Lotus Lantern Festival — arguably Seoul’s most popular cultural event with foreigners — has really gotten, well, international, with Korea’s Sri Lankan, Thai and Nepalese communities contributing floats to the big Lotus Lantern Parade down Jongno. Nice to see, although I was a bit disappointed that another Buddhist nation — Mongolia — was not representing, especially considering how there’s probably more Mongolians than US troops in the country.
And then, in the “Well, you don’t see THAT in Korea everyday” department…

Apparently, Jongno 4-ga is the older folks’ gay district of Korea. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!
Great photos, especially the one with the kid.
And then there’s the dildo pic… |)
Obviously a benefit of the KORUS FTA.
Ajushi passerby, looks at table,
“Hey! I’ve always wanted one of those!”
Badambam.
Thank you. I’ll be here nightly.
Number one adashi asks number two adashi. What do dildos and dubu have in common”? “They are both meat substitutes”!
Pictures were beautiful - with the exception of one. The Marmot’s view of Korea is always an interesting one - artistic and somewhat perverse at times. Notice the vendor’s expression - was that glare just for the Marmot’s sake or was that the normal expression this guy has? I know they sell a lot of used things in the Insa-dong and Chongno area - you don’t suppose…….?
Nice lanterns. An NSFW tag would’ve been nice on the other picture. Ugh!
