But if you genuinely believe that, then you should agree with me that the ROK should emulate the France of the 1960’s and expel US forces completely from its territory, as a needed step towards becoming the US’s “greatest ally” in Asia.

Well I don’t him personally but the press describes him as being “unabashedly pro-American” which, used in the same sentence as “France” or “French”, is probably making lots of people do a double-take.

Indeed. And that’s probably what scares leftists into protesting his election – and burning cars, and generally making a mess of themselves. Sarko’s a first-generation French, and doesn’t have the baggage that weighs him down like other politicos. He’s a pragmatic guy, he has a problem – actually a long shopping list of them – and looks at other countries and systems to see if what they did could help France. Of course, French people being allergic to changes, he’s in for a rough ride, but in the end, if he or another one doesn’t start soon shaking up the tree, the whole country is going to collapse…
