I will be guiding a 3-hour RAS Walking-Tour of the Bukchon [North Village] neighborhood of hanok [traditional Korean houses] — including a stop at the excellent Gahoe Folklore Museum and other interesting spots — this Saturday, and there’s still space for a few more people to come along. Weather is expected to be good… We meet on the sidewalk at the Orange Line’s Anguk Metro Station Exit #3 by 9:30 am. You don’t need to register in advance, can just show up and pay then. We ask w10,000 for members, w12,000 for non-members; i’m a volunteer guide on this, all the money goes to support the RAS.

sounds like all the excitement’s in bukchang, not bukchon these days…
It went well, 14 guests came along, we saw the good stuff and the hazy sky cleared up around noon… Still can’t get into Inchon Kim Seong-su’s house, dammit, tho it should’ve been opened for tourists by now; Adjumah turned us away at the gate. Great changguk-jang lunch at Byeol-gung afterwards as always. Now we can look forward to the Bukchon tour Robert will help guide at the end of this month, which i’m sure will be more architecture-details-focused.
Why is this area not yet on the main tourist map for English speakers? It is not yet listed as one of Seoul’s top 10 places to visit, while the magnificent 63 Building as Lotte World are…go figure. Even the newly set up Bukchon council English language website http://bukchon.seoul.go.kr/eng is not particularly enticing. So I am breaching the gap with http://www.hanokgirl.net
That’s a nice site “hanokgirl”. Please broadcast your URL to other sites as well.
