I heard from somebody who knows someone who knows her that after giving it a bath when she first got it, she tried to dry it in a microwave oven.

This is no urban legend. It's true!

Like fan death, which is also true.

What's interesting is that although it may be a variation on a theme, this is a brand new, freshly minted urban legend...Snopes says the story first appeared in British tabloids just earlier this month, in April of 2007.

Michael... that was Bhaaaad. Those poor Japanese were fleeced. One would suspect that the thugs who sold these creatures to sheepish consumers are on the lamb.

Just as I suspected, the story is the retelling of an old urban legend (the 'Mexican Pet', in this case).

PS. "Some think this is a hoax."

I'd say it's a cautionary tale. It struck me has having many of the usual elements found in such urban legends (crime, ethnic stereotype, celebrity). Besides, given that lambs grow quickly, it's likely that the lambs sold would be newborns for the hoax to work. Even if the buyers were clueless about animals, I would guess that they would have realized pretty quickly what animal they had bought once it started to get hungry, bleat, and refuse to eat kibble.

"What’s wrong with carrying a baby lamb around all the time? That seems even more exotic and stylish and, most importantly for Japan, kawai’i!"

Because lambs weigh about 12 lbs at birth, about 70 pounds 60 days later, and 85 pounds after their 75th day.

I'm happy that you're all having fun here.

But, there is no TV, no Newspaper mention about this in Japan. This can't be right.

Apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks this is just an Urban legend.

Some think this is a hoax.
