The same thing is going on here, too. There was recently a raid of massage parlours; the owners were tipped off. All the girls actually found there weren't doing anything illegal (at the time) and were Koreans on working holiday visas.

So much for the argument that illegal immigration drives down wages.

Perhaps. Anyone know how much an Aussie working girl earns?

Digging up that answer is tricky. Best I could do is find
this report and do a bit of math. The average monthly earnings of the estimated 16,000 "employees" (seems low) works out to AUD $6,500 (approx. 5 mil won). The average number of punters per day is a bit more than 2, with each earning the worker approx. AUD $100.

If the Korean "holiday maker" is engaging in one less transaction than the daily average then she's doing well.

How well they're given to self-restraint is up to you to speculate.

Isn't it perfectly legal for a student to work as long as it is less than 20 hours per week?

"ended up in a saloon for Koreans in Sydney"
Unlike Korea Australia has anti discrimination laws. I just might go to one of these 'saloons', be refused admittance, and lodge a complaint citing discrimination.

Note: the definition of "trafficking" given by the Australian government includes all women that came to Australia to work as prostitutes through some sort of recruitment process, whether willing or not.
