PC vs Mac

If you’re a Mac user, you’ll no doubt appreciate the new (?) Mac ads [Apple homepage]. Of course, if you’re an anti-Mac PC user, you’ll probably get a kick out of this [YouTube].

I’m a PC user. (I wouldn’t get into a flamewar over it, though.) The whole Mac “culture” strikes me as rather precious and pretentious, and these ads reinforce that with the dorky, awkward PC character vs. the oh-so-casual-hip Mac character. That said, the ads are growing on me over time. I’d better stop watching them while I still can, or I risk succumbing to Steve Jobs’ evil marketing wiles.

Like Power Computing’s propaganda t-shirts used to say, “You can have my Mac when you pry it from my cold dead fingers”. I’m awed by Apple’s rebound into the stratosphere since the self cannibalizing clone days, but those commercials are soooo 1990s and play poorly on old thinking, old ways, and old ideas about PCs and Macs.

Sewing ~ Mac culture is very pretentious. But I find PC “enthusiasts” to be a bit homophobic about any other box, especially a Mac. This attitude, like Apple’s commercials, is also outmoded.

Yeah, that’s why I wrote I wouldn’t get into a flamewar over it. Mac-PC (or PC-Mac, if you prefer) flamefests are the most pathetic spectacles in the world.

Yeah, but they’re also fun to watch.

Instead of talking about Macs, how about Macs in Korea?

Korea is very backwards in that all site hosting in Korea is not Mac friendly (try using a Mac to get mail from your Korean-hosted domain!) — only Windows and all commercial websites, from government to ticketlink requires one to use IE with windows (active X). Forget the safer to use Firefox browser or most any other platform. Actually, this problem is scandalous considering the supposed internet-savy BS things I read about the internet in Korea. Rather, let’s say that Korean botnet spammers and hackers love Windows because they can make $$$ from it.

If you’re a fan of Peep Show (the greatest comedy since The Office [the real one]), you’ll check out these Mac ads.

Once I buy this I’ll be the king of Starcraft. Wonder how I’ll look in my fancy dancy Starcraft sun su costume. Ought to get a toupé.
