Great to hear that many Koreans recognize that this is a good deal for them. Unfortunately, Roh et al, though surprised at the surge in popularity, say they will go back to their usual principles for governing. In other words, despite this great success, they’ll go back to their usual incompetent ways on everything else.
Next stop, Nixon!
And how long this popularity would last?
Although I doubt that Roh had envisaged the significance of the deal with the US fully at the beginning of the talks, I think it is quite significant in the sense that it provided the basis for the possible future deals with Canadians and Europeans, both of whom will get into talks this month and next respectively. That potentially means Korea might have FTAs with Canadians and the EU, as well as with US, in the next few years.
