The National Statistics Office used to have a really useful site @ nso.go.kr. Not any more - now it’s an online shopping mall and you have to pay for all their info.
Before the conversion, their population projection table had 2015 as the year of peak population for ROK, with a steady decline after that.
Anecdotally, in a similar vein, my wife had dinner last week a Korean friend. She’s a dentist, graduated SNU, has her own clinic in Seocho. Her husband is an esthetic surgeon, also SNU, has a clinic by Hongdae. She said they’re stopping at one kid, because they can’t imagine how they’ll afford to educate a second.
it’s not about feeding them, it’s about paying money to educate them and get them a secure position in society.
Incredibly sad society.
