Grand National Party lawmaker Bahk Jae-wan claimed Tuesday that there were some 70 websites recruiting Koreans to work as prostitutes in Japan between October 2006 and March 2007 [Newsis, Korean]. And of these, some 15 were recruiting men to work in so-called “host bars” in the Land of the Rising Sun.
There are currently an estimated 40,000-60,000 Koreans illegally residing in Japan. Of these, 30,000 are believed to be working in the sex trade.
Some point out that with the local “host bar” market saturated, the number of Korean men going to Japan to work in Japanese host bars is skyrocketing.
Bahk said, “Brokers are using enticing language, such as guaranteed salaries of 10 million won a month, good working conditions and language training to recruit people to send to Japan’s amusement quarters.”
He warned that due to Japan’s uniquely complex penal code, it was virtually impossible for Koreans to make money in Japan’s red-light districts.
Bahk said forging and smuggling rackets were involved in the trade, with websites including ads for fake citizen IDs (men: 400,000 won, women: 600,000 won), driver’s licenses (men: 700,000 won, women: 1 million won).
He called for the government to look into the state of Koreans prostituting themselves in Japan and take legal measures against brokers and websites recruiting Koreans to work in Japanese brothels. Of particular concern is that Koreans employed in that line of work are sometimes forced to leave their passports with the brothel owner, limiting their freedom of movement and posing the danger of passport forgery. This in turn could lead to human rights abuses and security issues.
He also called for cooperation with Japanese police in eradicating websites forging official documents.
Experts worry that since many Japanese make simple comparisons between Korean prostitution in Japan and the World War II comfort women, overseas prostitution of this sort could lead to stereotypes about Koreans.

A Korean wave?
The experts are too late. In inner city Sydney, most of the prostitutes are Korean, and yep, the slang for them is “comfort women”.
Hehe. You said “penal.”
isn’t that your term for them, Lee Wan Yong.
Sex sun jin gook, Japan.
Where men can make money serving as prostitutes as well.
Usually, these kinds of business aren’t profitable enough for the woman customer.
Not in Japan.
Might find this description of a former worker interesting…
Sorry, but wasn’t this post supposed to be a non serious subject to begin with?
The plight of the man-whore…
The vast majority of hosts are not male prostitutes, rather they are men with nice hair who are friendly to women and convince them to pay money to the host club for drinks. I’ve met a couple foreigners here who worked in Japanese host clubs, and they said that sex with customers was very rare at their bars and only a consensual thing that took place outside, not prostitution. But who knows, maybe the Korean host clubs are different. As for the women, I do know there are Korean women working as call girls here, since I’ve occasionally had my mailbox stuffed with junk fliers for their services.
I know that this is a bit off-topic, but I just HAD to share. Has anyone else seen this??
Canada Introduces New Beaver Tourism Slogan
– OTTAWA - Seeking to boost its travel industry, the Canadian Department of Tourism has announced a new slogan based on its native beaver. The slogan debuted last week in newspaper ads showing small furry animals playing in the water, next to which stand a group of young Canadian women inviting Americans to “Come See Our Beavers.”

This strikes me as odd, since Korean men care less about the satisfaction of their partners than any men in the world.

I think James might be onto something. Not sure how taken Japanese women will be good ol’ fashioned adjoshi foreplay - a few cuffs to the head - particularly if they’re paying for it.
will be *to*
“Come on! Come on
ToshiBum Suk! First rate _ _ _ _ lapping!”The local host bar market is saturated? I had no idea there was such a thing here. Because of this the men are going to Japan? Huh?
Women in Korea are spending time with “Juicy Boys”? Maybe the market is saturated because there isn’t much demand. This is news to me. I had no idea Korean women were becoming so liberated.
Anybody know of any good host bars in Annandale?
I don’t know. I guess I could give my wife thirty-five sweet goodbyes, jump on the Wolverine and check it out for you.
