Yeah, but would would Jumong have said?

This should put the fear of God into Wendy Cutler—Korean FTA negotiators sent their American counterparts a poem [Korea Times] written by Goguryeo general Euljimundeok [Wikipedia] and sent to a Sui Dynasty general during the Goguryeo-Sui wars of 598-614 [Wikipedia]. The Americans reportedly laughed their asses off.

Of course, they would have laughed their heads off. It’s a corny poem.

If the Korean FTA negotiators have the time to find and send an ancient poem to the US side, hoping that the US will budge, then maybe they have the time to figure out that the reason that the FTA is not moving ahead is because they are insisting on protecting Korean markets instead of opening them for free trade.

This is why it’s always a bad idea to make policy and tactical decisions over galbi and soju.
