I am back from my vacation in the States and will be back to posting as soon as I can get three weeks of backlogged work done.
I actually did a pretty good job of not following Korean news while I was out of the country. They only thing I know is:
- The Six Party Talks have a phase one deal.
- Roh left the Uri Party.
- Park Geun-hye visited Washington.
- Another Korean celebrity killed herself.
During the trip, my family and I had the chance to visit Josh (of One Free Korea fame) and his family. Not only is Josh one of the IKK’s elite bloggers, he is also one of the finest human beings I have ever met and a really smart guy. Josh and I also had lunch with an Asia-expert in D.C. (no gratuitous name-dropping here) and had an interesting discussion on several Korea-related topics.
Back to the Six-Party Talks; my local paper relegated news on the talks to somewhere around page 8 (of the usual wafer-thin 12 pages of the main section), which is a pretty good sign of the level of interest in Korea that most Americans have.

OK, we know what you mean–it’s interesting that she goes to the States to shore up her base, or as Roh once called it, “kowtow.” Her and Lee will make for an interesting campaign.

In any case, I think visits like that are required for many Korean politicians. Chung Dong-young was there a few months back.
