N. Korea GIVES aid to Zanzibar

by Robert Koehler on December 6, 2006

How f*cked up is this: North Korea is giving 1 million U.S. in aid to the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar (which is a very nice place, BTW) to help the territory’s agricultural sector. Well, if Pyongyang starts dealing fake Djarums, we’ll know where they got the cloves. (HT to OFK)

Maybe they’re shopping for a nice beach-front exile property for NK’s only fat man. I can’t imagine Tanzania has much in the way of extradition treaties with the developed world.

They have one with the U.S. and the U.K. http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/65570.pdf

I stand corrected there. Hmmm, what other suspicious activities could the DPRK be up to there?

The $1 mil is all counterfeit IMO.

The important point is that they don’t have an extradition treaty with Korea.

And that’s some really nice beach-front property. Spent a couple of weeks in Zanzibar, and I’ll tell you, it’s probably the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. I can see how Kim Jong-il might like it there, in fact, given how Zanzibar, too, is run by the son of a despot with a lot of blood on his hands.

But imagine being so poor you need aid from North Korea. That’s gotta hurt.

Well, at least we know where part of the money that the ROK pays to the DPRK for Kaesong and Kumgang is going to.

They haven’t actually given them any money, just promised to. It won’t happen.

Obviously, the aid was given out for propaganda purposes. What better way to appease the hungry North Koreans than to make them think that North Korea has the knowhow to feed them through the winter?
