So, what’s your opinion, expats — is this the first word of English everyone in Korea now learns? I’m sure it punctuates every GI conversation over there just as it does back here in US, in fact not just military, you can stand anywhere (ie supermarket check out line) and a bunch of young guys will come up and converse with each other, using it freely, blithely unconscious of any women w/children in earshot.
Quite a reflection on the times in which we live. I’m just old enough to remember when it was otherwise, one change that is not for the better.
Is that place near Starbutts?
Lovely Fucking may more apt for that locale. Vinyl couch, curtin, roll of tp on the table. Lovely.
What is an Itaewon?
Paul H: I hear ya. The f* word is out of control, which has also diminished its power. The motherf* word is now used when the speaker needs the shock effect that the old f word had.
There’s a similarly depressing trend in Korea with “shibal”, which you now hear non-stop. Kids use it to each other, even in elevators with adults standing around.
It’s second in popularity only to the pre-spit hawk.
I had it explained to me by a Korean colleague that many Koreans think that F***ing is another word for really.
I.e. It’s F***ing cold today.
It’s a great word! I got fucked at the used car dealer. You are a fuck up. She’s so fucking hot. And as every word in a sentence. Fuck the fucking fuckers.
What do you expect from the country that brought us Fcuking USA?
Way back when I worked at a gas plant as a summer student with the tin basher/insulators. One guy told me one day that we had to redo one of the vessels…as he put it…”the fuckin fucker is fucking fucked”. I could not argue with that.

Just the other day this college age girl walks up to the bus stop and as I’m passing be she says to herself “어어, 좆나 추워.” I’d heard that a few other times recently but that was the first young chick out in public where others might hear. The times they be a’changin.
