Julian Rydall of The Times (UK) talked with Kim Seong-Min, who was a captain in the North Korean army before defecting to the South. He now runs Freedom North Korea, a shortwave radio station broadcasting to the North. It’s an interesting read, so check it out.

I thought that name looked funny at first glance as I used to live in Yangcheon gu a few years ago. That’s not his name, but his location, Mr. Marmot.
12% of defectors had listened to his broadcasts? That’s a very significant number of people. Any idea how we can send donations to his group?
My bad. One can do some funny things with cut-and-paste at 3:00 in the morning…
From the article:
“Many people protest against what I’m trying to do. Students and left-wing groups have threatened me countless times. I’ve been knocked unconscious in the street and now there are two plain-clothes police outside. We have had to change our offices three times.”
Assuming he’s telling the truth and isn’t just making the claim to damage his ideological enemies, this suggests that the “students and left-wing groups” are either insane pro-North fanatics, or are on North Korean payroll and take orders from Pyongyang. Or both.
