Ban wants Seoul to do more on NK human rights

Remember when John Bolton came out so strongly in favor of Ban Ki-moon for UN Secretary General?  Unlike Bolton, many of us in the IKK worried that Ban would stick with President Roh’s ’see no evil’ policy on North Korea.

Maybe Bolton knew something we didn’t.

From the Chosun:

UN secretary-general-designate Ban Ki-moon on Sunday called for a “more proactive position” from Seoul on North Korea’s human rights issues. Ban said the international community “has great expectations in that regard, despite the special circumstances the nation is facing on the Korean Peninsula.”

That is a good start.

Maybe I am being overly optimistic, but perhaps we can expect more like this from Ban in the future.

I think Ban will bring brains to the show. He is a reasonable guy

    Uhhh….

Does this mean South Korea is going to vote on the UN NK human rights condemnation?

I thought the recent news was that they were going to abstain again. That is going to be rather interesting, no?, when you have the South Korean being the head of the UN, calling out his own nation to do something about the problem, and his nation won’t even vote….

I mean — they have to vote now, don’t they?
