No irony there. I may not like the way things seem to be going in the mid-terms, but I still believe they are an important check on presidential (and majority) power. If the American public wants to throw us out, fine. We will lick our wounds and come back for another struggle in 2008.

I thought I had been pretty clear about that in the post (despite all the typos).

On the other hand you want to let the president have some coattails so that he push the agenda he was elected on.

Thanks to Public Law 109-364 and a few other rubber-stamped banana-republic-like powers, he now has all of the coattails he could ever need…

Anything in the proposal about simply investing all power in the leader who can shoot 6 holes-in-one in a single round of golf? I’m ready to vote for that one myself and I’m not even Korean.

Yeah. Normally, those are changes that politicians want when they actually have a chance of winning the next elections.

I think they are an important check on Presidential power by giving the public a change to make a ‘mid-course correction.’

And correction is occuring as we speak.
