A little music to read the post by - Rockwell - “Someone’s watching me”
Choi Kyoo-shik recently complained about the number of government-operated CCTV cameras scattered throughout the city - nearly 7,300 - and increasing daily. ”Seoul is now a ‘heaven’ for CCTV cameras, ” he declared, and then went on to complain that in Kangnam district that the present crime rate for serious crimes in that area is just about the same level it was prior to the installation of the cameras. He may have a point.
Cameras aren’t just used by the government to prevent crimes, they are also used by the criminals to commit crimes.
According to an article by nocut news, a peeper at Seoul National has gone high-tech.
On October 30th, at around four in the afternoon, a Ms. A. (presumably a student), needed to use the facilities on the second floor of the Seoul University Humanities Department building.
While conducting her very personal business she made a frightening discovery - a camera lens at the base of her stall. She ran out of the bathroom and called for help from another female student and imagine her surprise as a young male in his 20s (kind of short - only 170cm tall) walked calmly out of the stall next to hers and made his way presumably - out of the building.
Evidently this is not the first time this has happened and the women are not going to take it any more. They have placed placards throughout the campus expressing their outrage in big letters.
My favorite part of the article is the explanation that this could happen because sometimes students inadvertantly walk into the wrong bathroom. The school claims that at times someone has misplaced or purposely switched signs. I am not buying that and neither are the students. I would imagine that if a woman walked into a bathroom at school and noticed urinals - she would have a pretty good guess she was in the wrong bathroom. Likewise a lack of urinals in a large bathroom should be an indication.
This article also noted that the samething happened at another university in 2002.
I remember several years ago there was a large scandal in Shinchon when it was discovered that a very large department store had two way mirrors in the changing room and evidently some people who should not have been watching others change clothing were.

meh, i went into the wrong bathroom in jamsil station. had my mp3 on. gave the girl who came out of the stall beside me a weird look while i was washing my hands. then noticed the sign on my way out.–dang.
dont assume we’re all looking for urinals after eating samgyupsal.
Seouliva - that may be true but when I wrote this post I just woke up and put the wrong article there - this is the later one - the nocutnews article goes into more detail and clearly states that the female student noticed a camera at the bottom of the stall.
Now, in all truth, the male student could have become disoriented and entered the females’ bathroom by accident - but I still think he needs to do a lot of explaining. If you thought it was the men’s room - why are you taking pictures of the occupant in the next stall?
I think the young male in his 20s who seems to have been confused as to the restroom needs to review bathroom etiquette. I have been gracious enough to provide the youtube link

And she didn’t stomp on the camera first before running out?
who watches the watchmen?
I teach at a women’s university. There has been a number of times that I’ve been doing my business at a urinal and had students come in to use the men’s restroom. The women’s was obviously full.
There is nothing like standing there and having a conversation with a student while you’re pissing.
Well, they do have unisex bathrooms here.
It think it’s alright that we’re in same bathroom I’ve gotten used to it.
I’ve never gotten used to the idea of people who actually want to see girls do #1 or #2. That’s just farkin’ gross!
There’s lots of stories here about this kind of stuff. The real story is the university making up the completely unbelievable lie about the guy accidentally being in the wrong bathroom.
So why was he trying to film in there?
Ridiculous!
They just want to pass the buck and dismiss any possible responsibility for taking care of the situation. Same as usual!

I agree completely…you can just hear over-used excuses pouring out one after another
“He was probably just…” - Every time I hear that sentence pop out in a lame attempt to excuse someone’s idiotic behaviour, I honestly wonder if some people are in denial so deeply that they start to believe their own lies and expect others to do the same.
