Ganghwa Anglican Church

Front door of Ganghwa Anglican Church

I really like this photograph. Took it a couple of months ago.

Magnificent! Did you get a picture of the whole building, though? I’d like to see that. (I’m just being lazy here…I suppose a 30-second search would find a pic on the Web.)

What’s the building reflected in the door windows (nice Korean-Western blend there, by the way, like the house in Daejeon)? The rectory?

Okay, I found some more pictures here: http://www.tourguide.co.kr/loc.....LTCATH0002

(For this disinclined to navigate through Korean-language web pages to see photos, check out this page: http://www.ganghwaro.com/tour2/sungonghwea0.htm)

The front gate is interesting, too…a cross, but done in the style of a traditional t’aegŭk, as one finds on some other old front gates.

It’s called the 강화 성공회 성당…does that mean it’s a cathedral (성당), or do the Anglicans call all their churches 성당 in Korean?

I know I’m just talking to myself here, since this post has nothing to do with hookers or NK belligerence or other fun stuff.

You know Robert, I found one site that actually has pictures and ambient recordings of environments (places) and such a thing would be nice to go with some of these pictures.

I also caught the postive review of music on Gangwha at Korea.net.

I noticed the quality resolution of his photos from the Marmot ‘06 tour through Honam and Hosŏ.

    Can anyone translate the characters?

  11. Posted October 21, 2006 at 3:22 pm | Permalink

Without consulting a dictionary (no time right now),
“Three (something) one body, God ten-thousand …”
(”God” is composed of the fifth and sixth characters: “Heavenly Lord.”)
