Her in Sokcho too–whenever they do have a National Secrity Drill, it happens about this time, so it’s most likely a test. It’s annoying when you’re trying to go somewhere, though.
We have these drills about once every two months here in Sokcho–I don’t remember them being that often whe we lived in Suwon, though. One of Korea’s little mysteries . . .
“Kim Jong-il is not suicidal.”
@ 1400….it is a test….. all quiet here at CFC HQs…. makes you think though….
Skindleshanks, Sokcho is pretty damn close to the border…north of the 38th parallel and all that. Maybe you guys are lucky enough to get extra drills!
Honestly, I feel as safe here as anywhere. I doubt if Sokcho would be a first target, and it’s a good 50 minutes at highway speeds to the border. Of course, in the case of a land invasion, there a numerous 10 metre (or so) solid blocks of concrete between here and there that, with the help of a small amount of explosives, would render the roads useless. So I figure we’d have at least a day to get out. Failing that, there’s the cave where my father in law hid out during the Korean war (and where he heard his older brother shot dead metres away as he ventured out for food).
Of course, I don’t really believe that it will come to that. Methinks in a couple decades, though, we will be living next to a be a much less fortified border, and hopefully there will be a streamlined process to get the Chinese visa to cross. . .
