Chinese netizens pissed at Kangta concert at Great Hall of the People

Conservative Chinese netizens are reportedly up in arms about last month’s concert by Korean pop star Kangta and Taiwanese singer Vanness Wu in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People.

It seems the netizens were a bit upset at the government for allowing the artists to turn China’s august legislative chamber into a “nightclub.”

Particularly infuriating were photos of Chinese fans dancing upon the desks otherwise used by deputees of the National People’s Congress.

Noteworthy about the debate, which is taking place at some online forum run by Xinhua, is that conservative netizens are taking the relatively open government to task.

Kangta’s concert was the first ever given by a foreign entertainer in the Great Hall of the People.  Since last year, Chinese authorities have been allowing local and overseas stars to use the legislative building and promoting its use as a venue for press conferences and other events.

Umm….. I can’t say I’d blame them… I would be pretty upset if there was a concert held in the US capital building, but I’d be pissed at the government for allowing it, not the performers for doing their job.

Vanness Wu? Yeah he’s gayer than ironed socks.

I guess I would be pissed too, if the National People’s Congress were a real legislture.

But, since it mainly serves as a rubber stamp body to help the ruling oligarchs maintain power, the NPC has no face to lose. It wouldn’t really matter if a troupe of dancing monkeys performed on their heads during the two weeks a year they are in session

    Screw all of you!

Kangta and Vanness Wu is the best thing since butter on bread.

Mind you my current shares in SM Entertainment (who Kangta is a shareholder) does make me somewhat biased.

No such thing as bad press as long as they get the name right.

I second Andy here. The GHOP is a useless building under the current political arrangements of the PRC.
