Bukchon’s hanok homes apparently need all the help they can get.
Activist David Kilburn held a gathering Sunday at his home in Gahoe-dong that combined the creative powers of local artists with an appeal to higher powers to protect the neighborhood’s collection of traditional Korean homes from, among other things, unhelpful government policies and real estate speculation.

If you haven’t been to the Bukchon neighborhood between the Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung palaces, you really ought to make time for a visit to this truly special area of Seoul.

Yeah, i’m going to talk about these controversies during my tour of the area tomorrow morning…
…and so i did. Talked m’self hoarse, in fact.
The tour went well, 45 people showed up! 20 western expats, 25 Korean tourism students (from my dept, but brought there by another prof, just wanted to watch me work). The mood was good, the weather excellent, Gahoi-dong at its most photogenic. Some good cash earned for the RAS, which i can feel good about… An excellent Cheongjang-guk lunch afterwards, too!
