A reader—I’m not sure if he/she wants to be named—sent me a translation of a blog entry by Dr. Zhang Jihai, who you’ll no doubt remember from here. In it, he highlights the frequent sightings of old, ugly white guy-young, pretty Chinese girl couples, and indicates the good professor’s intention to research foreign, or more specifically, white women’s views of Chinese men and what Chinese men can do to boost their chances with our full-bosomed, melanin-deficient sisters.

I will remember forever Tuesday, March 7, 2006, the day before International Women’s Day, because on that day, something happened that caused me to make three important decisions.That day started out uneventful. At noon, a young Frenchwoman and I went out for lunch. On the way back, as we arrived at the entrance to our workplace, we saw across the street in the distance an elderly trash collector pushing a cart.
Just then, the young Frenchwoman grabbed me, saying, “Did you see that?”
“See what?” I was puzzled.
“Right in f ront of you.”
I then realized that the old man across the street was a foreigner, his back to us, with long, dirty, messy hair. No wonder I mistook him for a trash collector. The cart he was pushing held not garbage but a mixed blood child.
Next to him was a Chinese girl, young, pretty, attractive Chinese girl.
The Frenchwoman burst out laughing, “What’s up with Chinese women?”
The Frenchwoman laughed because we had discussed this very topic at lunch. I had heard about these kinds of foreign male/Chinese female couples before, but didn’t give it much thought. Now, however, the gap between this man and woman is too intense. A lovely Chinese flower and an old, ugly,fat, short, half-naked, withered foreign man and their little baby in the cart.
On the one hand, the Frenchwoman bent over laughing (I don’t know why she laughed like that). At that moment, my self-respect as a Chinese man was deeply hurt.
Several days later, I made three decisions: First, I want to tell everyone the truth about these ugly foreign men. Second, I want to mobilize the Chinese people to keep Chinese women away from foreign men.
Third and most importantly, as a Chinese scholar, I have decided to interrupt my regular work and wholeheartedly undertake research that has never been done before: foreign women’s images of Chinese men. The outcome of this research is to help Chinese men pursue foreign women.
Our research will include two major parts: first, my fellow scholars and I will visit white women who are living in China and who do not have Chinese boyfriends and find out the reason. Then we really want to visit some white women with Chinese boyfriends/husbands and ask them about the strengths and weaknesses of Chinese men.. I know there aren’t many foreigners like these, but luckily, I’ve already met a few.
We must also carry out a large-scale survey on foreign women in China (white women only). Using scientific measurement techniques, the outcome of our study will reveal images of Chinese men in the eyes of white women and discover the five most attractive things about Chinese men. This research will answer the following questions:
How do foreign women feel about Chinese men?
What would unattached foreign women most like from Chinese men?
How can Chinese men improve their attractiveness to foreign women?
What characteristics about Chinese men do foreign women favor most?
What kind of foreign women really like Chinese men?
How can Chinese men understand foreign women? How can Chinese men approach foreign women in public?

Wow. There’s just so much wrong with this, I dunno where to start.
Now, I’m as much in favor of the male-Chinese, female-non-Chinese as the opposite, but damn… If this guy’s against ‘mixed blood’ children to the extent that he ‘mistook’ one for garbage, maybe he’s not exactly the guy to be asking how to meet and impress non-Chinese women.
The Dear Professor should read “Foreign Babes in Beijing”, a memoire written by a Caucasian-American Jewish woman in which three foreign females including the writer herself (two American and one German) exclusively date Chinese men.

More power to him-if he can find a way to increase Chinese (dare I say Asian) mens chances of scoring with the European ancestored women of the world-good for him. I suspect that starting with understanding why Asian women like non-Asian men would be a good start. In Some areas they will not be able to compete and others they will. I mean if he really wants to analyze the issue, he might as well learn not just how to bed white chicks but how to better compete for the Asian chicks going to non-Asian guys.
Let the games begin. If he can figure out what makes Caucasian chicks tick, then he’ll become a rich man selling international rights to the book.

Note how the good professor tips his hand in describing his project. He thinks attraction has to do with “images,” presumably those force fed to us all. No doubt he will conclude that Brad Pitt and Hollywood is to blame. This is the politically correct answer because it does not hurt anyone’s feelings.
The truth of the matter is that Asian women hook up with Caucasian men despite all the bad press they receive.
Attraction happens at a deeper level than media propaganda. Men are attracted to women who are most feminine and women are attracted to men who are most masculine.
Carlos Mencia was doing a bit on his show the other day. He was wandering around LA asking women questions about what the liked in men. He came up a couple, an African-American man and an African-American woman. Carlos was shocked. “I can’t believe it,” he shouted. “I have found the one black man in all of LA that dates black women.”
Caucasian men tend to possess fewer or less pronounced masculine traits than African men. Asian men are at the bottom of this totem pole. And the totem pole of femininity is perversely in reverse order with Asian women on top and African women on the bottom.
The good news for Asian men is that they rank highest in intelligence, are less likely to develop mental illness and have longer life spans.
Look for this topic to have legs. The next phase is a bunch of angry Asian men to start slamming white men. Then the white men will slam back. Then the conversation will somehow become about George Bush before dying at the ripe old age of 150 comments. Do not mourn the passing of this thread, however, as it will be resurected next week.
I’ll out myself as the translator. When I sent the translation to Robert, I described it as a “feast for trolls” but actually this thread is pretty flame-free. I enjoyed reading it and thought Marmoters might, too. Over at the Peking Duck, most commentators doubt the opening anecdote, and I do, too. A baby stroller looks nothing like a trash cart, and I can’t imagine a Frenchwoman doubling over laughing upon seeing a scruffy old white man with a much younger Chinese partner.
The next part of Zhang’s post is provocatively titled, “When Did China Become a Paradise for Foreign Men?” It is about twice as long as the part I translated, and I’m holding off on it until after I’ve waded through the comments section, which I scanned last night. Surprisingly, it wasn’t full of flames against white men, but rather more self-critical, blaming their own people for a lack of self-respect and making frequent mention of the economic disparity between China and the West. Translating and sharing comments worth reading is my project for tonight.

I agree with you. Women used to have “Cinderella complex” in 90s. Now, they have “Amazon dreams”; they want to be ball-breakers.
Women require men to say “Yes, ma’am” like a small child and obey every one of their commands verbatim. A slave is what they want.
Once in a while (when they feel the urge), they reward their slaves with sex. Many of them want to be on top and require men to come only after they come. Men have to work hard to hold ejaculation and many times it is more work than pleasure.
After they totally enslave their mate, they dream about “real man”. A man who is not a slave or gaylike. A man who commands and treats women like garbage. A real man.
So, there are two ways to play. China man can become super-Macho if he wants to get white ass. Or, he can be a gay-like in manner, ready to be enslaved. I think the latter will be easier for a Chinese.

Yes, since these women did not have a Chinese neighbor, their idea on a Chinese is exclusively formed by Hollwood movies and what they heard from their white neighbors (who drew their conclusion from Hollywood movies).
So, there is only one solution. Go Hollywood. Make movies with beautiful Asian male actors in heroic roles - more honest, more funny, wealthier, more able than other races. Shape new generation of minds.
If I ever became wealthy, I would do my share, living in Los Angeles and all. I remember whispers of adoration around me in the theater that played the movie “karate kid”. Movies are great tool to change racial stereotypes.

I think the danger is that a lot of Westerners read things like this, including the comments and come away thinking that China is a bastion of anti-miscegenation. In reality, I believe the majority of Chinese people could care less. It is well to remember that those kinds of threads in China (like anywhere else) are largely self-selecting, and should be read with a large grain of salt, certainly not extrapolated to Chinese society at large.
I find the whole interracial relationship topic so overdone and tiresome, but I realize we’ll probably never be rid of it. Like the other poster said, the good thing is that this will die down before too long, at least until the next Western lothario gets the brilliant idea to publicize his ho-hum exploits. So you wnet to Asia and got laid. Bravo. [clap. clap.]

I haven’t read every comment, but from what I’ve read, there’s more self-criticism of Chinese servile attitudes towards Westerners than angry calls for the head of the offending blogger.
I’ve been in relationships with two white women (one american, one european) and I havent figured them out.
I’ve had relationships with a Chinese, a Korean, Jamaican, Haitian, and two Puerto Rican women. One thing I’ve learned is that regardless or race, nationality, background, what have you, women are women. They’re all slightly nuts.
Women are like an alien race set down to live among us.

Hey, I think I might be able to agree with Bluejives on this one.
I have to chime in here and ask the same thing. It’s not a question of being prudish, but it’s a “not-work-safe” image on a blog whose creator assiduously goes out of his way to flag even links to images as being “not work safe.”
