I read this

If you took all the women that I’ve been with, lined them up and took a photo, it’ll look like a Benetton ad.

yet I don't understand what BJ's howling about.

Uhm, Bluedog9, that's "Filipino" not "Philipino". I should know, I am one. =)

A lot of the comments on dick size seem pretty lame but Ben Eller’s observation that Korean men have bigger (or better) brains than “their white brothers” is pretty damn funny too....

As I said, balls will most often than not outweigh brains. With bigger brains, you only get a headache. With bigger balls, well....you get an aching head....but it's fun! =D.

The Lady Kyunghyang contributers provided some pretty amusing insights, although I was pretty disgusted by one's negative descriptions of Philipino and Nepalese fellows. I mean, what's up with that? Some of the coolest people I met in Korea were Philipino dudes so I thought the comments were pretty racist.

When you get down to it who gives a damn who goes with who. If Korean women want to date white guys or blacks or Philipinos - go for it. If Korean guys like Bluejives want to date white girls, why should I give a shit? Mix it up. Have fun. Be nice. Some Korean guys should maybe calm down a little - not all white guys have the 'Asian woman' fetish anyway.

A lot of the comments on dick size seem pretty lame but Ben Eller's observation that Korean men have bigger (or better) brains than "their white brothers" is pretty damn funny too. I confess I actually used to believe it too but I've seen enough now to realize I'd been duped.

Yes, there are lots of Korean students in big American universities. Yes, some of them are very good and certainly doing good honest, original and productive work. And good for them, they obviously worked very hard to get there. On the other hand I've been asked many times to write Korean students' Ivy League application essays, and even their term papers once they've been admitted. Now that's a great start to a hard-earned Ivy degree, right? And yes, they pay those same big universities those exhorbitant tuition fees after which these 'institutions of higher learning' adjust things like low English scores and who knows what else and push many through graduation. You can't blame just the Korean students for this though as big American universities over the past few decades have become more and more like big businesses and are themselves becoming diploma mills for those with connections or those willing to pay foreign tuition. Even domestic 'geniuses' like George Bush can now cite Yale as their alma mater.

It was nice of Eller to compliment his Korean friends' superior cranial capacity but they certainly aren't over-representing Americans, Europeans and Japanese in Fields Medals (Mathematics), Literature, Medicine and Science Nobels and such, are they? If anything whitey, blacky, and other Asians like the Indians and Japanese, are seriously out-performing Koreans. So can we stop with this obviously out-dated stereotype now?

Does anyone besides me see a fine line between a "fetish" and a "preference"?

What difference does it really make if someone prefers a particular type of partner. At the risk of sounding schmaltzy, Aren't we all looking for someone special? And don't we all define what 'special' is?
How many of us (men) refer to ourselves a 'ass' or 'tits' or 'legs' men based on our individual 'hot' buttons?
BJ wears his colors of benetton dating history as if it is some kind of badge of political correctness to make sure you sample one of each. Eventually, you have to pick ONE. 'Color' may not be the deciding factor for you but it may be for someone else. Do you have the right to slam, judge, bait or flame someone because they choose based on different preferences?
If these Korean women mentioned in the article even exist (because we all know what journalistic integrity is in the Korean media), why should they be condemed, chided or ridiculed for their decision to experiment with interracial coitus? That way, they can make a more informed decision about whether they will go back to what everyone else around them is doing. right?

"Let's get it on, sugar Michael" Well, I'm flattered, but let's keep it platonic Mr. Shin :)

Totally agree with you on the consensual sex...it's nobody's damn business who does what with who. If someone objects to your relationship it's their mental illness kicking in, so better to ignore them.

USinKorea,

You and I are native English speakers from the same country and we understand the word "fetish" differently. I do not see fetishes as having any taboo-like quality, and all of the dictionaries I checked described a fetish as a "very strong liking for a particular object or activity, especially for sexual pleasure." The word association I make with "fetish" is not "taboo" but "weird."

As for men with racial fetishes being harmless, I've never heard of any serial rapist/killer who preyed on women of a particular race; however, any weird remarks or behaviors put me on my guard. Women have a threat instinct towards men that men do not have towards women for obvious reasons: differences in size and physical strength and the risk of rape and other sex crimes.

Just two weeks ago, I moved into a new apartment. The neighbor across the hall took a strong interest in my presence. While I was inside, he was peering in the windows of my car and looking at my license plate. I found his curiosity invasive and make doubly sure my door is locked.

I think we women have a much more sensitive threat radar that is easily tripped when a man says or does anything out of the ordinary. Author Gavin DeBecker calls it "the gift of fear" and urges women to trust their instincts rather than ignore them for the sake of politeness.
