JonBenet Ramsey murder suspect taught in Korea

by Robert Koehler on August 17, 2006

in Stupid Foreigner Tricks

Hasn’t been picked up in the local press yet, but it appears that the prime suspect in the 1996 killing of child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey taught in Korea after he left the United States in 2001, according to an online resume allegedly belonging to him:

Seoul, Korea: I was a classroom teacher of English for children aged 6 to 12. Duties included planning lessons, conducting classes as the sole teacher in the classroom, making assignments, and issuing grades. I taught 22classes per week. The classes were 45 minutes in duration with an average class size of 18.

That’s scary as hell. And apparently, he was being held in Thailand on unrelated sex charges when he supposedly spilled the beans about Ramsey.

That’s scary as hell.

No kidding. An average class size of 18? Just thinking about it gives me the shakes.

Either that, or a fan – they’re both pretty freaky.

3 Travolta August 17, 2006 at 9:38 pm

It’s not surprising. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are other killers (possibly, we don’t know if he really did it yet right?) teaching English in Korea. I met some psycho mo fos over there.

He may not have stayed long. It’s one year on his resume but is also split up with time in the Netherlands. Maybe he pulled a runner.

I think a Korean outcry is a guarantee, but I wonder what it will do to reflections on the industry back in the West.

5 Travolta August 17, 2006 at 10:15 pm

Theres sure to be an outcry and it will be the foreigners fault too, not the shit house Korean immigration people.

6 The_William_G August 17, 2006 at 10:59 pm

Yeah, we certainly dont need that blacklist or nothin’

“Theres sure to be an outcry and it will be the foreigners fault too, not the shit house Korean immigration people.”

Travolta, forgive my ignorance if I’m misinformed. But what would have been the reason for immigration to stop this guy from entering Korea, if he wasnt’ convicted of any crime? Even if they did the background check, if his sheet was clean, how were they supposed to have known that in the future, he would have been arrested for pedophile in Thailand, and that he would confess later to be the killer of that little girl? Or am I mistaking? Did he have some kind of criminal pedophile record when he entered Korea?

i’m sure the guy fit right in with the rest of you.

koreans are right to be suspicious about the expat. just look at his resume:

single
high school graduate
english speaker
former manager of fast food restaurant
alcoholic
allergic to real work
child molester
child killer

brilliant

Yeah, and we stick ‘em in freezers, too (leftovers!) What’s it to you?

10 Zonath August 18, 2006 at 4:16 am

On a side note, Pawi (and as long as we’re making sweeping generalizations here) – How goes the cocksucking trade?

11 slim August 18, 2006 at 4:19 am

And yet, nuljipawi, ALL of the expats you regularly stalk with your stupid, petty comments come off as smarter and with more class than you EVERY friggin time. What does that make you?

12 pawikirogi August 18, 2006 at 4:55 am

wow! i must have touched a nerve. let’s be civil in our conversations, shall we? respect begets respect.

13 gaemee August 18, 2006 at 6:13 am

If somebody hates expats, why would he choose to live in a country full of such people? Action speaks louder than words.

14 dda August 18, 2006 at 6:23 am

he was being held in Thailand on unrelated sex charges

Sex charges in .th?!? Musta been some bad shit…

15 sdcarroll August 18, 2006 at 6:31 am

Would you rather do time on sex charges in a Bangkok prison or get extradicted to Colorado (with no death penalty)?

Not that I’m cynical…

16 Zonath August 18, 2006 at 6:37 am

wow! i must have touched a nerve. let’s be civil in our conversations, shall we? respect begets respect.

Which explains why people treat you like a toilet. Korean in America? Must be a whore or a pimp. So which one are you?

17 gbnhj August 18, 2006 at 7:49 am

Considering the number of namechanges Nulji Marikpan/Shin Dong Il/Pawikirogi has gone through, perhaps he’s really Kushibo. ;)

18 Sonagi August 18, 2006 at 8:18 am

Korean in America? Must be a whore or a pimp. So which one are you?

Whoa, Zonath. Don’t stoop to Nulrogi’s level by hurling ethnic insults.

19 Sonagi August 18, 2006 at 9:05 am

The news updates on this story make the case against this guy look shaky. He is definitely a pedophile, but the only evidence that he murdered JonBenet is his bizarre confession. His ex-wife, who divorced him because of his sexual interest in children, says that he was in Alabama with her during Christmas 1996. The authorities have not revealed any physical evidence linking him to the crime.

20 iwshim August 18, 2006 at 10:30 am

The link seems to be gone. Can someone provide a copy of the resume?

CM,

You’re right, I spoke too soon. I think i read something like he was picked up in the US for having child porn but didn’t get any serious time/punishment for it. I may have misread though. I was a little drunk when I posted that. There should be background checks for all foreigners seeking work visas, especially for teachers dealing with kids I think though.

What I should have written was that there will be an outcry and many will probalby blame foreigners for not keeping the industry clean. Hagwon owners never seem to get any blame nor do the authorities who should be setting tighter guidelines for who can teach and who can’t.

But once again CM, you were right, my comment was stupid and not thought out at all.

Call me sexist if you will, but I don’t know why anyone in Germany would hire an American man to be a nanny when you could hire a turkish or Romanian woman. English is not that important.

Karr claims he taught English to children aged 6-12 in Seoul, South Korea, and volunteered as an English teacher in Heemstede, Netherlands, a resume posted on an English-teaching institution Web site said. The Web site took down the posting after an Associated Press reporter called. South Korean immigration officials have declined to comment.

25 shakuhachi August 18, 2006 at 3:44 pm

So does this mean that all the people that suspected the Ramsey family of killing their daughter were wrong?

26 ghostofexpatspast August 19, 2006 at 6:16 pm

eww… this guy looks creepily like someone that used to drink at Hollywood Grill in Itaewon when I was living in Seoul during the summer of 2004. Ewwww.

Iv been at this case since i was 5, 12 years I have read every maagazine and the first time i saw her she caught my eye on a magazine her beauty and the horrible thing that happened to her. What I believe probably dosent matter. I believe the parents, a kidnappers mind dosent work by asking for such a small amount and killing the child before he gets it. Karr was simply seeking attention and i only hope she can rest in peace.
