I checked and the smiling face, upfront, *is* cut-and-paste alla Photoshop. Non-lossy, digital artifacts are there even though they did a fair job of it.

this picture actually frightens me. maybe the smiles look a little too happy, or the faces are in too much contrast to the stiff, angry looking military bodies.
