You know, Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon has to be the happiest man in the world today.
First, he comes out on top of a straw poll of candidates for the next UN secretary-general.
Then he gets a reminder of why no matter how difficult the UN job might prove, it can’t be as tough as trying to explain to allies presidential statements like these.

Good bye Mr. No Mu Han. Hello Ban Ki-Moon.
I have to think South Korea’s wimpiness toward and abetting of North Korea will hurt Ban’s candidacy.
As for Roh Moo-hyun … I wish he’d make good on those 2003/4 offers to resign.
Beautiful. Let’s ask leading yes/no questions instead of actually tackling the issues! Here are a few more:
“Do you still molest children?”
“Do you think I’m sexy?”
“Are you a witch?”
Presidents and their aides making comments castigating lawmakers for asking questions… Which administration is this, the No administration, or the Bush administration?
Many months ago I suggested that N Korea won the “war” with the South because they got the teachers… Well, patience is a virtue. How much you want to bet that there are many, many more of these Teacher Training Manuals out there??

Gomer Hyun shows again how Busch League his administration really is. Is the sunstupid policy still around? Hows that going for ya? Instead of dumping your money into a worthless cause like shoring up KJI, better start saving for the nK collpase. The squeeze is on, with or without you.
Maybe I’m just being a damp towel but I have my doubts Ban will get the post. We’ll have to wait and see I guess.
The UN Secretary General is custom made for a Korean. Think about it. The current holder, Kofi Annan, just got away with the biggest money laundering scheme in the history of the planet. (the whole oil for food for cash scam) Oh, my bad. it was his broooother. Tell me this ain’t a Korean’s wet dream! He can manipulate aid $$$, accept kick backs openly, tell the world what he thinks they should do (even though NOONE will listen), and everyone in Korea will still think he’s like an emperor or something.
I hope Banky gets the job. The UN is about one more crisis (perceived or not) away from dissolving due to irrelevancy and it would make my day to be able to say “Look korea. You took over and the whole thing collapsed.”
Why would anyone even want that job?
I think you answered the question already. UN Secretary Generalship offers a unique combination of status of a lefty demigod and an outstanding opportunity for untrammeled personal enrichment through manipulation of the UN budget and programs generously provided by dumb ol’ America. You’re right, that’s a Korean’s wet dream.
But I agree with Jodi. It would be very surprising for Ban Ki-Moon to get the post. Korea has no friends in the world other than America, and America looks ready to end the friendship. However, given the Our Pride Our Cool™ factor at play in the elevation of a Korean — and a progressive, to boot! — onto the world stage, we cannot write off a massive covertly government-funded or -orchestrated Korean bribery campaign to put their man Ban over the top.
Ban would be perfect for an irrelevant, incompetent organization that follows outdated progressive ideals while backing tyrants and dictators.
