Well, if there is one way for Japan to win friends and influence people here in Northeast Asia, doing some creative interpretation of their post-WWII peacenik constitution so they can do a preemptive strike on the DPRK is sure to do the trick.
Japan said it was considering whether a pre-emptive strike on the North’s missile bases would violate its constitution.

Japan’s constitution currently bars the use of military force in settling international disputes and prohibits Japan from maintaining a military for warfare. Tokyo, however, has interpreted that to mean it can have armed troops to protect itself, allowing the existence of its 240,000-strong Self-Defense Forces.

It’s like 1984 with ‘thought crimes’ all over again. Hell, I thought about swimming over and taking out Kim^2 myself, but I didn’t. Am I going to be charged for assassination now?
The issue is they are considering doing it in the future. That would be bad. I’d even go so far as to say that the DPRK would be more likley to lose face vis-a-vis a strike on the part of the US than Japan. An attack by Japan would just be too, too much for any Korean, north or south of the DMZ to handle, IMHO.

I kind of wonder though what would happen if Japan actually did launch a pre-emptive strike against North Korea. After all, if they were able to take out all the sites with missiles capable of reaching Japan, North Korea’s retaliation options would basically be pretty much limited to attacking South Korean targets. Relations with South Korea could sour as a result (assuming the Norks leave SK alone), due to Japan kicking the crap out of its bestest buddy in the wurld, but other than that?
Well considering no one’s talking about ‘killing Koreans’ but rather just shooting a missile on a launch pad… But lets play this out. Say Japan would have shot the missile right off the launch pad, and all hell would have broken loose in South Korea. Would S. Korea have then attacked Japan? What would the international community think of such a situation? Don’t forget, North and South Korea are separate countries. An attack on Japan in that situation would be an unprovoked unilateral attack by South Korea. Certainly all hell would break loose, but which side would America take? She certainly couldn’t just stand back and watch. I don’t think she’d pick a side, but she would ‘put down the uprising’. Which would be the ‘uprising’ in this hypothetical situation? Remember, Japan DIDN’T shoot any missiles period, so this whole post is hypothetical as well as all the comments with it.
To even consider this is a boneheaded move, if you’re Japan.

No it’s not. Do that, and it’s 100% certain Seoul will be a sea of fire within minutes.
So that wouldn’t be Japan killing Koreans now would it, it would be Koreans killing Koreans. Ahh the brotherly love. The simple solution to S. Korea not getting invaded (again) by the North would be to actually stop supplying them and support the arms embargo and sanctions that Japan proposed. I’m not sure if they’re against it because they are mentally challenged, or if they are against anything Japanese. But either way S. Korea will have no one to blame but herself when she turns into a sea of fire.
The threat of Seoul turning in to a sea of flames is exactly why N. Korea should be put to a stop now, be it shooting the missiles out of the air, off the launch pad, or a full out invasion.
Also, Japan wasn’t the only nation that was talking of taking out the missiles before they could be launched, but Japan is the only one S. Korea is telling to ’settle down’. I guess Korea just really is against anything and everything Japanese because if taking out the missiles really was a problem, they’d have things to say about other countries as well.
Japan should attack NK missile bases. The following things will happen.
1. SK will not do anything.
2. NK will like to do something but what? NK navy is a joke. And, there SCUDs and Nodongs are all destroyed by Japanese pre-emptive strike.
3. China and Russia will babble, but do nothing.
4. The US will not do anything.
The result: Japan 1-NK 0

NK missiles are, at this point, threats for Korea to live free. Killing KJI and his cronies ensure freedom for SK and also provides a chance for NKs to be freed from KJI.
If the Japanese attack can provide these, I applaud the attack.
The problem is peacenik pseudo-intellectuals like yourself are letting NK to grow in military strength. And, one day, NK will do no-mercy pre-emptive strike on SK and invade en-mass. And, all your kinds can do at that crisis will be to soil your underwear.

No. It’s not simple as that. The problem here is the historic background of Japan and the relationship with its North East Asian neighbors. It would be a bone headed move for Japan to stir up the hornet’s nest full of old unmended grudges.

I don’t agree with that. I think S. Korea would be responsible for it’s own ass-whooping after ignoring the reality for all these years. It never should have let the North get this far.

Keyword, historic. That time is over, the government has changed. S. Korea is working hard to keep Japan as an enemy to the unite the people (and perhaps itself with the North?). Again, if it really cared about military threats, it would be worried about North Korea and China, but instead is all buddy-buddy with them while throwing mud at Japan. The history part is just an excuse to be stupid. I think the Marmot said this before, but does Mexico consider if America has made up for it’s crimes before doing negotiations? No. This simply works in S. Koreas favor so they’ll keep doing it knowing that Japan won’t do anything in return because they know that Japan really is not a threat, otherwise they wouldn’t provoke.
