Can you imagine a Korean punk band playing "Soju Mama"? How bout all the girls, being westerner girls, who can't handle their alcohol, being those mamas? Would that make it more PC? ]]> By: Nice idea, but will it take off? at Lost Nomad http://www.rjkoehler.com/2006/07/03/holy-mother-of-christ-what-the-hell-is-this/#comment-42216 Nice idea, but will it take off? at Lost Nomad Tue, 04 Jul 2006 11:02:52 +0000 http://www.rjkoehler.com/2006/07/03/holy-mother-of-christ-what-the-hell-is-this/#comment-42216 [...] Some of you may already have read some of the articles in the various papers about a plan which will allow foreign doctors who have an overseas medical license but not one from South Korea to treat fellow foreigners.  Being former military and a retiree gives me access to the base hospital (but not the dental clinic) so I personally haven’t dealt that much with the Korean medical system except for the MRI I had on my knee, plus the dental services we have done off-base.  The MRI was done up in Suwon and the nurse and technician spoke excellent English.  Ditto for my dentist, who was educated in the U.S. and who I’d recommend (and have) to anyone.  I guess it depends on who you are and what you can afford, but I’ve heard nothing but praise from my fellow expats who utilize Korean hospitals/clinics but then, most of them end up going to the larger ones like Samsung medical center up in Seoul or Aju in Suwon.  I have to wonder how many foreign doctors would come here to practice, knowing they’ll live in a foreign country with a somewhat limited clientele.  Would they get paid a base salary by the hospital they worked for, or would it depend on the number of patients they saw/treated?  I’m also wondering if this plan isn’t geared more towards non-English speaking foreigners working and/or living here as from what I’ve been told, communication is no problem when it comes to English in the larger medical centers.  And if it is, you can always have your soju mama do the translating for you, right?
