Screen quota, hot babes and Kim Jong-il

With the screen quota being slashed from 146 to 73 days from today, Korea’s starving actors and actresses took to the street in a mass demonstration calling for the restoration of their beloved trade barrier. But why talk about evil American multinational capital and cultural imperialism when we can ogle Kim Hye-su!

Here she is with Jeon Do-yeon, whom I’m also keen on:

kimhyesudemo1.jpg

That’s right, Hye-su… let your voice be heard!

kimhyesudemo21.jpg

Look at the concern! (see also here)

kimhyesudemo3.JPG

“The screen quote is a symbol. If the symbol disappears, so does the substance.” Kim Hye-su: not just a pretty face, but a deep thinker as well.

kimhyesudemo4.jpg

Did I mention I dig Jeon Do-yeon?

Jeondoyeon.jpg

And Jang Jin-yeong, who looks good no matter how much she dresses down.

JangJinyeong.JPG

Here she is trying to look militant.

Hey everybody! Dear Leader’s in the house, yo!

Asshat.

Ah yes, because you can always make your argument seem much more logical by saying, “look, North Korea doesn’t believe in free trade, it must be evil!!.. oh, but keep buying our stuff”

That should be like another Goodwin’s Law. I call it, Kim Jong-il’s law. “Whomever uses the ‘Even Kim Jong-il agrees’ argument automatically loses, and is to be taken out back and shot, because that’s what Kim Jong-il would do.”

Unless of course that guy is holding up a saying that says something like, “yes, excellent. no free trade (in a Mr Burns voice)” in which case he is truly awesome.

Given their devotion to intellectual honesty and consistency, you can expect this same crew of dedicated warriors dipshits to take their protest show on the road to Vietnam, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and every other destination in Asia where the Korean wave is pounding the shores.

Just as they’ve sworn to protect Korea from the evil forces of American cultural imperialism, surely they wouldn’t want to appear to be ignorant hypocrites if at the same time they were promoting the Hallyu invasion throughout Asia at the expense of the native cultures of those willing consumers poor victims suffering the same indignity in favor of their own paychecks.

America exporting films = full-scale invasion and heartless profiteering.

Korea exporting films = benevolent cultural sharing and charitable enlightenment.

I would hardly term Kim Hye-soo or Jeon Do-yeon as “hot.” Jang Jin-yeong perhaps mildly so. Oh, these white men with poor taste in Asian women! :(

*I hope people realize I am being facetious–except for the part about Miss Kim and Jeon being not so attractive*

If I were a lesbian, I’d take natural-looking Jeon Do-yeon over the bionic woman any day. It must be hilarious when men marry these plastic dolls and end up with ordinary looking children.

    Sonagi,

I prefer artficial beautiful over natural ugly.

Besides, why make it an either-or proposition? There are–gasp!–some Korean celebrities who have seen very little to no surgical alteration to their facial features.

For instance, the woman who plays Joo Mong’s love interest in the MBC drama about the mythical Koguryo founder looks the same as she did in high school.

Uh, no kidding. Jeon Do-yeon is beautiful, looks very natural, and gets lots of plum roles.

You and I differ, I guess, on ‘beautiful versus ugly.’ First of all, there are few people who are physically ugly. Most of us are average, and average is fine with me. Pre-surgery Ms. Kim was probably not ugly and might even have been pretty.

Second, unnatural is unattractive to me whether we are talking about human beings or nature. The difference between the natural beauty of Jeon Do-yeon and the artificial beauty of Kim Hye-soo is like the difference between a lovely maple tree giving shade to a yard and a plastic potted plant in an office.

    To each his own.

Don’t know who the girl is behind Jeon and Kim in the first picture (don’t think it is Ha Ji-won), but behind her is Park Chan-wook.

Anyhow, as silly as the screen-quota fans are, I do think there is a big difference between Hollywood exports and Korea’s. Korean films doing well around Asia is a step toward creating a regional film market, which would be very useful for all the small film industries around Asia. In other words, Korea’s exports are, in a way, helping the regional markets that import them. Don’t think you can say that about Hollywood films, which merely force out local product.

I agree with Robert over Jeon Do-yeon. She may not be classically pretty, but she is rather funky in her own way. I restrain myself from making any Jjajjeungmyeon comments…

Oh, and when did Kim Hye-su get such a large sign? Here she is a little while back, with no signs of any signs:

    Dave,

Ha Ji-won is indeed purdy, but I don’t think it’ her.

    Haisan,

Hye-soo has always huge boobs. Perhaps she had a ga-soom deflating bra on the photo you linked us? In fact, is that even her? It just doesn’t look like her.

Aw, c’mon. You could know that only if you went to school with her or saw at least a midlength candid shot of her as a young teen. School photos show only head and shoulders. I do know a few Korean women who are naturally well-endowed, but those women have rounded tummies. I am a woman and I saw naked women every weekend at the mokyoktang. Most women with naturally large breasts either have rounded hips and thighs or a rounded tummy. A string-top bikini shot would reveal if they were real or not. Real tits hang in a string-top bikini. Fake ones look saucer-like.

    Sonagi,

    Let me clarify myself.

I didn’t mean to imply that Hye-soo was, um, well-endowed genetically or naturally. In fact, I explicitly mentioned that she had a bust enhancement surgery. If you’ve seen her in a recent movie where she went topless, it’s pretty clear that her breasts are not natural.

Instead, when I said she has “always” had a large chest, I meant since I first noticed her as an adult entertainer (I’ve been told she was a child actress, though I don’t recall). I think I first saw her in “Dr. Bong,” and that was around a dozen or so years ago?

It looks like there has been no noticeable change, no?

By the way, I’ve been told that a bust job is rather ubiquitous among Korean female entertainers. In fact, I’ve been told that the ones who haven’t had one are vastly out-numbered.

The reason it’s not so conspicuous is because, unlike American females who get them, Korean females go for a moderate enlargement, rather than going from jeol-byuk to Dolly Parton.

It could be she is slinging silicone. If EVER there is a need for a barbarian to conduct quality control, I can be available on short notice. As far a hot goes, she looks middle of the road. I have seen much more attractive girls in Myong-dong. Perhaps this sword swallower is platform tested on the casting couch? It certainly holds closely to the sluttish remarks.

Are we talking about the same picture? She is definitely no bigger than a B-cup in that photo. I don’t mean to brag, but my tits are bigger than hers in that 1999 photo, and I’m a 35C. In the photo at the top of this entry, she looks like a C or possibly D-cup.

I was about to suggest that if you couldn’t tell the difference between a smallish B-cup and a C/D-cup, you needed more experience with the ladies. ;) Then I realized that guys presumably don’t check out their girlfriend’s bra sizes, so a guy wouldn’t be able to judge beyond simple descriptors like “huge” and “flat.”

Can’t the type of bra also play significant tricks on the eye? I would imagine I can find photos of Hye-soo from the olden days where she would appear mammoth.
