I realize that the Chosun Ilbo has its perspective but I did find the interviews to be moving and made me angry at the callous treatment these fellows had recieved from the Korean Government.
i can not believe the ROK government doesnt recognize this day or event in some official capacity
The families of the deceased sailors have been treated even worse than the survivors.
This is a new low for the Roh Administration. To sweep the whole incident under the rug and REFUSE to help these poor guys in the guise of its ridiculous policy of bowing to Kim Jong-il is reprehensible.
The rumor is that Roh and his cronies are able to name the two girls who were accidentally run over by the US bridgelayer, but cannot name any of these boys who were MURDERED by the North.
The article was pretty skimpy, to be honest. I reminded my students of this incident a few days ago.
Does Korea generally recognize post-traumatic stress disorder?
Has Roh or any other elected official ever shown up at any of the anniversary ceremonies?
They never show up in the ceremony.
Those pro-North politicians are eager to atten Gwangju Commie celebration but they never acknowledge this incident. They hope people to forget.
Korean people will never forget. In less than two years, Korean people will kick out these Commies and take back the government.
These victims will be remembered, then, in the national ceremony and the fallen heroes will be decorated by medals.
korearecognizes death by fan but not….PTSD
thats pretty amusing!!!
remember condaleeza rice busted out the foreign minister on his trip to washington back in 02. she simply asked if he knew the names of the two schools girls killed he says of course then she says can you name any of the six sailors who were killed and the stupid bastard was silent!!!!! thats pathetic
USFK (i may be wrong) issued condolences and honors to the soldiers before the ROK government
mcnut, you aren’t wrong. And the US honors them every year on the anniversary of their deaths.
The way they have been forgotten by the current regime is pathetic.
I heard on Korean radio news that
The Korean Navy held memorial service and give honors to survivors and K.I.A sailors of Chamsuri 357.
These sailors and will be remembered and honored.
Cheers to the Chosun Ilbo for letting these forgotten survivors share their stories.
Is that story about Condoleeza and the foreign minister true, mcnutt? Do you happen to have a link? I believe you, but it’d be interesting to read the full news report of the visit.
