Warm up to USA vs. Ghana

You know, even is Team America goes down tonight, at least we can hold our heads high and chant:

It’s all right

It’s OK

Freddy Adu will be playing for US someday

Why is it every other country in the world that is participating in the World Cup has a fight song, and the U.S. doesn’t? :(

    Remort,
Seems to me, Metallica does have a “don’t tread on me” song.. . how about that?
I think the more important thing would be to have a booster group something like the “Red Devils”. If there is one, I haven’t seen it.

Well, it looks like Ghana will be the ones playing Brazil in the next round, instead of the USA. While disappointed, I am glad to see the spot going to a team that actually might have a chance of beating Brazil. ;)

Oh, and if we’re proposing a fight song for the USA, I propose ‘Big Balls’ by AC/DC.

There is a booster group named Sam’s Army–there were few hundred of them here for the 2002 World Cup including the guy who won Survivor Africa. http://www.sams-army.com/ & the fight song is the Banana Splits’ “Tra La La” song.

Ack… Why does the USA booster group have to link itself to militarism? I mean, why can’t they make the much more wholesome link to Satanism?

On the plus side, Pyeongchang, Gangwon was recently announced as a finalist candidate to host the 2014 Winter Olympics. Other candidates are Sochi, Russia, and Salzburg, Austria. Hopefully, they’ll win their bid (selection is in about a year), inspiring South Korea to beef up their Winter Olympic team to emphasize events along with short-track speed skating…. like regular speed skating ;).

Of course, if Pyeongchang does win its bid, look for North Korea to stir up shit by demanding to host some of the events, just like they did for the ‘88 Olympics.

Apparently Freddy Adu was on ESPN’s “PTI” show today and when asked about his country allegiances, he replied that he hasn’t yet decided if he would play for US or Ghana. He’s obviously still stinging from his exclusion from Germany and clearly impressed by the Black Stars’ performance thus far. I think he’s been capped by the US before though. I remember Adu spurning Ghana’s advances in years past, but WC success goes a long way.

Adu is getting a lot of stick on US boards for his comments, but as a child of immigrants, I can relate. (To my knowledge, Adu left Ghana at age 8.) The problem is the timing. He seems to be glory-hunting.

    We shall see in 2010.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Remember, even with an outstanding football tradition, this is Ghana’s first WC appearance. Qualifying out of Africa–with only five bids–is no easy feat, whereas the US are locks every tournament in CONCACAF.

If you see in the long run, USA has a more brighter future than Ghana.

USA has already a well designed proffesional soccer league and the sports science is the top of the world.

I think USA will emerge as a great soccer nation in the next 30years.

The problem is that soccer will become popular in the USA only after a big success by the national team.

That’s what they said when the women’s team won the Women’s World Cup in…what year was that? All I remember was that some woman was running around in her bra, creating a scandal.

And soccer is popular, just not major league soccer.
