The Apgujeong Affair

apgujeong_incident.JPGA couple of fans apparently got a little too excited watching Korea take down Togo on Tuesday night. Two fans were caught on digital film seemingly engaging in activities other than the Vertex Dance on top of an SUV in Apgujeong-dong.

The photos are now running wild through Korean cyberland via bulletin boards and blogs.

Nobody knows whether the two were actually doing the deed, although most seem to have their doubts.

One netizen who claimed to have been at the scene of the crime, however, said the dude was white and that both were extremely drunk; he gave a detailed description of what transpired, a description the JoongAng Ilbo failed to print.

Hard to tell from the pictures the ethnicity of the guy involved. I’m sure as hell not going to speculate, other than to say that while Koreans do silly things all the time, stupidity this great usually requires a foreigner.

Anyway, police in Gangnam said that should the content of the photo be verified, the two involved could be booked for public indecency.

(Don’t blame me—blame Baduk for the link)

UPDATE: Here are more (and larger) pictures. Still can’t tell anything, but considering how a) whoever originally posted the pic was considerate enough to blacken out the guy’s face, and b) the crowd around them appears to be cheering them on, I’d say the fortunate young man is a local or, judging from the clothes, gyopo. But this is all speculation, of course.

UPDATE 2: Video footage, baby! Leave it to the boys and girls of DC Inside to get the goods. If you watch the last video on that page, you’ll notice that at least one barbarian was present, although he doesn’t appear to be the lucky bastard in question. At any rate, it seems like there was one hell of a party—gives you some idea of how generally well-behaved the country is when this kind of celebrating can spark netizen controversy.

    GOOOAAAAALLL!!!
Anyway, long-time listener, first time caller. Can anyone think of a better reason to register? ;)
But seriously, even if he is a foreigner, can someone tell me who exactly is cheering? Must be all those other foreigners who came for the street party!

I saw the pictures on Daum….but seems like this “dude” is a local kid. Not a foreigner.

All I can say is they missed a good soccer game while dicking around.

A girl this daring cannot be domesticated. Trouble in the making. It’s better to dump her asap. She can hurt you, more ways than one.

All pleasure you might get out her is not worth the damage she will cause - in your mind and in your health, let alone in your wallet.

Well, this is the beginning of the end of the en masse celebrations.

Don’t the foreigners that cheer on the Korean national soccer team have any pride? Something in me cringes to see it…

Baduk is great for some one-liners for sure. My personal favorite is “Koreans? Fools die!” taken from “Pentagon report warns of Chinese intervention in N. Korea” about a month back. But, underneath a thick, thick layer of entertainment is something to listen to. It’s taking me a while to get used to but there is some wisdom there.

That’s about as erotic as Korean porn gets. I doubt they were doing it.

A friend, in a taxi on his way home tonight, saw two people having sex on the asphalt 5-6 feet from where cars were passing by. Asked if he sees such things very often, the taxi driver said it was a first for him…

Can’t believe that you would even write an inuendo that this guy was a foreigner. Are you working for the Hani now? Come on Robert, I think that you are going over to the dark side. No Way that this guy is a foreigner. The Korean men would have already dragged him down to the street and kicked him to death for even touching one of their precious virgins!

I think, it also applies to every national if you chage “the korean men” to others.

But of course. Foreigners drive on sidewalks, don’t use condoms as kimchi stops HIV, and allow passenger planes to crash because otherwise the captain will lose face. You’re a foreigner, aren’t you?

Oh, hell, guys - Robert’s just stirring the pot. It’s a habit he picked up from his days working for a Korean daily.

I’d easily believe the guy’s Korean, and that they were doin’ it or at least drunkenly attempting to — the guy’s pants seem partly down, and he could’ve pushed aside her thong under her miniskirt — i’ll bet it was two Koreans who have “studied” in Australia — where extreme public drunkenness and public sexual activity is pretty much normal in the big cities…

Did anybody else notice the guy’s shirt? It says “Sex Calorie Counter” with stick figure diagrams. It looks like he was just trying to practice the top, right picture on his shirt.

I still gotta stay up all night to watch the game with my co-workers Sunday-Monday.

    Sigh.

With humor, comrade, always with a little humor

After the story some months back about the nightclub (not in Seoul as I remember it) where they had drink winning contests for regular people who would do a strip dance for the crowd, this isn’t so shocking.

It is also in Apkujong — Korea’s “Manhattan” —–

anybody who would want to emulate New York city……..

Also, how long ago has it been since those teens shot the sex video that was all the rage on the internet and around town?

    That was some years ago……

Manhattan does not have a “Linda Booti Pang” building though. I’m going go up there one day when I have on a suit and ask for Linda . . .

[...] All this means, of course, that with Korea’s next World Cup match against France set for the early morning of Monday, nobody will actually give a shit whether or not the North tests a missile unless it lands in Gwanghwamun.  And even then, if people are partying like they apparently do in Apgujeong-dong, I doubt anyone would really notice.
