Lao Ocean Girl has posted a ton of photos taken from a 2004 trip to the East Sea volcanic island of Ulleungdo. Be sure to check them out.
Co-blogger Andy and I took a trip to the island several years ago, and without a doubt, it’s one of the most spectacular places in the entire Republic of Korea. A highly recommended spot for those with the time.

Seeing those photos make me wish I had made it to Ulleungdo during my stay in Korea, if even just for a couple days. Maybe next time I come to visit…
Been there, done that, and want to do it again. It is by far my favorite place in this country.
Yeah, i had a GREAT trip there in 98, it was a really memorable 3 days. Got some fine photos, incl of a fascinating Buddhist temple (there are 3 on the island), that i’ll post someday…
It was definitely the prettiest place I’ve been to in Korea. It was much more like Hawaii than Jeju-do. The water was sparkling blue and so clean.
I don’t know if Sanshin has made it to Ulleungdo yet, though. It looks lovely and I should visit too.
I almost have a fantasy that such a place would make a great nature preserve for reintroducing the tiger back into Korea. Then maybe Sanshin would go there after all.
Beautiful.
Have you guys ever been to Jeju Island?
Love to see some photos from there.
I hope to take a trip there soon enough, which means…
