So the Chinese government is stepping in to protect the Chinese people from Korean dramas because they’re “boring and old-style”? How thoughtful of them.
---------------------------------
we don't need the government's "protect" from korean dramas, man, dramas do not hurt people-_-
there are a lot of channels to choose and we also have some interesting dramas to watch. korean dramas were once popular but we did not ONLY watch them.

wow,,
i was just attrected by a post in a very famous BBS today, though it was some international forum here, but now it seems not.
some of those opinions seems nonsense to Chinese people. but it's understandable. some chinese also do this to Korean.every country have prejudices about other counties, and we all know what happened in the history education not only in China but all around the world.

In the US and in South Korea, it's the marketplace that protects the viewing public from things they find uninteresting, although I wouldn't mind some legislation to get rid of a few reality shows.

Well, unfortunately halting the importation of Korean dramas has been one of the countable decisions which we Chinese people agree with the authorities and this is not my personal suspicion--all the bbs in China, big and small. people are complaining about the boring and old-style Korean dramas while many tv channels are keeping on broadcasting'em.
the korean culture has indeed shared a considerable quotient of the China's culture or entertainment market in a period of time, lets say it reached its top in the past years. but its going down now. that's not because of some political reasons or our patriotism. "han liu"--liu is just a flow or steam which passes through, not a sea.

If I'm not mistaken, baduk himself was a U.S. troop, putting himself in harm's way for his adopted nation and rightly proud of that.

I think many Chinese, blinded by ethnocentrism, may not understand that.

You are a threat.

<blockquote>. . . I’m very much shocked that you are so proud of having another country’s troops on your own land!!!</blockquote>I think Baduk likes the fact that there are not Chinese forces in Korea . . . yet. It is not that he loves the Americans either.

Instead, what is disquieting is the deliberate way in which China has engaged in an attempt to justify its actions -- present and future -- by their revision of ancient and current history and the unrelenting vetting of Chinese culture and arts along these same lines of thought. Judging upon what I can read and hear from other educated PRC citizens, it seems that many Chinese are just as guillible (if not more so) as Americans in their willingness to go along with the questionable actions of their government so long as they are wrapped in their nation's flag. Such is a potential recipe for historical disaster if there ever was one -- just add blood and bake.

@Laurawang: <b>"If you want to know more of Chinese,I recommend Linyutang’s”my country and my people”,it was written in English more than fifty years before, but still wise enouth and easy for foreigners to understand"</b>

I have a copy right here, and I'll provide some excerpts to help my fellow Marmot readers understand better the Chinese mind:

from Chapter 1 The Chinese People:

(talking about cultural stability and the infusion of foreign blood)
"Such a well-organized and religiously conceived family system was of tremendous force when the Chinese race was thrown into contact with a foreign people with a less well-defined family consciousness. <b> Barbaric tribes or the children of mixed heritage were all too anxious to join the family and claim part of the family immortality...The race consciousness of the Jews can be shamed into oblivion only by the greater race consciousness of the family-minded Chinese."</b>

from Chapter 2 The Chinese Character:

"If we review the Chinese race and try to picture their national characteristics, we shall probably find the following traits of character: 1) sanity; 2) simplicity; 3) love of nature; 4) patience; 5) indifference; 6) old roguery; 7) fecundity; 8) industry; 9) frugality; 10) love of family life; 11) pacificism; 12) contentment; 13) humor: 14) conservatism; 15) sensuality.

They are, on the whole, simple great qualities that would adorn any nation. Some of the characteristics are vices rather than virtues, and others are neutral qualities; they are weaknesses as well as strengths."

from Chapter 3, The Chinese Mind:

This chapter, discussing Chinese intelligence, femininity, intuition, and imagination, explains the lack of scientific development, "It is easy to see why the Chinese mind cannot develop a scientific method; for the scientific method, besides being analytical, always involves an amount of <b>stupid drudgery, while the Chinese believe in flashes of common sense and insight. And inductive reasoning, carried over into human relationships (in which the Chinese are primarily interested) often results in a form of stupidity not so rare in American universities.</b>

It is fair to point out that this book was written in the early 20th Century, a time when Western powers scorned the "Chinaman," and this book was written in English for Westerners to show them how Chinese culture is equal or superior to Western culture. Chauvinistic books like "My Country and My People" and "The Spirit of the Chinese People" are popular reads among the young Chinese, now that the government has done a 180 degree turn from the Cultural Revolution and encourages the glorification of certain aspects of what the Chinese officially term as the "Feudal Society," China's imperial history to 1920.
