Sorry about that

Blog was down momentarily owing to a self-inflicted .htaccess issue.  Things should be back to normal now.

Shout out to Bluehost for the help.

Have you ever had any of the same issues with Bluehost as with LunarPages concerning PHP processes and their servers?

We aren’t ready to jump this instant, but would like to know about hosts that can handle a simple WordPress blog and a few plug-ins w/o servers almost crashing (and our site going down!).

Nope. Haven’t had an issue with Bluehost at all (knock on wood). And I got plugins running out the ying-yang. They seem pretty solid so far.

About how many times a day do googlebots hit your site? Each page they ‘hit’ generates a PHP process (or more) for that page. At the time we were getting 20k+/day, aside from thousands of comment spam (caught by Akismet, but that’s still a PHP process for each spam denied-Bad Behavior now stops spam before they can rate a PHP process). These days we get ~5-12k googlebots hits. Seems excessive to me.
