It’s bad enough that Hollywood had to go out and remake Lee Hyun-seung’s 2000 flick “Siworae,” starring uber-hottie Jun Ji-hyun (as director Kim Ki-duk said, if Hollywood likes the films so damn much, they should just release ‘em there). Even worse is that said remake seems to be getting trashed by critics. Topping it off, at least one film critic said “The Lake House” was a remake of a Japanese film. Or course, seeing how the remake is being bashed, this is one time Koreans might wish to encourage the confusion.

When I saw ‘Il Mare’ it took me a while to get clued in to the time difference because I could not read the dvd teaser on the pirated copy I saw. Still it was a good, not great movie.
For some reason, most pirated Korean movies in China will also have English subtitles, but its rare for the pirated Japanese movies to have them. (And a good percentage of American movies have English subtitling in bad Chinglish. weird.)
Somewhat OT it has always surprised me how popular kimchi is in Japan.
New York Times quite liked it.
Metacritic is giving it a 52 at the moment, same as NACHO LIBRE and one point better than FAST AND THE FURIOUS 3.

The Washington Post gave it a thumbs down, mainly for the concept. Other than the Jeon Ji-hyun ogling opportunties, was the original any good?
