Boy, that ‘Memoirs’ role must have pissed people off

Is it just me, or do Chinese netizens really, really hate Zhang Ziyi? Personally, I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the actress, but it seems like she’s being savaged in her native land. Anyway, according to Sports Seoul, Chinese netizens are apparently of the opinion that she was awarded the role of Mulan in the upcoming live-action remake of the Disney classic because, well, she’s flat-chested.

There they go again. Picking on my poor Zhang Ziyi. Those BASTARDS! (Muffled sob). Besides, it’s not like she’s one-hundred percent totally ironing board flat-chested.

Am I the only one who sees this as a good thing? One in the running for worlds most beautiful women is hated in homeland, forced to come to America = increase in chances for all of us !! Common human stupidity, don’t fail me now!

the really sad thing is she’s really being dumped on for having a cinematic roll in the hay with an evil Japanese man aka Ken Watanabe’s character in Memoirs. Now, on behalf of the ladies I say firmly that NOBODY should be condemned for taking advantage of that opportunity!

I think Zhang Ziyi is beautiful and really hot! I am extremely happy to see that Hollywood actresses with their enormous breast-implants DO NOT dictate an international sense of beauty. In fact it’s quite the opposite in this case along with a handful :):) (no pun intended) of other successful Asian Hollywood film actresses, hopefully this trend continues for small to medium sized breasted Asian women landing major Hollywood roles.

Give all the freak Hollywood actresses with breast-implants porn roles.

The Chinese have a real lynch mob mentality. They reserve the right to dictate the thoughts and behavior of other Chinese. And when I say lynch mob, I don’t mean they’re catty - I mean they say to each other something along the lines of “we should really get together and rend this person limb from limb”. This was at heart why (ironically) the authorities were a force for moderation during the Cultural Revolution - it was ordinary citizens who tortured millions of reactionaries (i.e. anyone who disagreed) to death.

The Chinese like to refer to those who don’t toe the accepted political line (whatever it happens to be) as foreign “running dogs”. I suppose we would refer to them as sheep, for accepting a single political line without demur. But a more appropriate animal kingdom analogue for their mentality would be that of the hyena. Chinese don’t simply follow the leader - they ape his thoughts and actions, and tear the heterodox, the weak and the laggard to pieces.

Apparently the Chinese Government does not like the Da Vinci Code either. They just banned it from being shown, suddenly without warning. The speculation was that it was proving to be too popular with Christians. Their government seems to harbor many fears, mainly for their necks.

    Gong Li > Zhang Ziyi

    In more ways than one.

Gong Li is hot. Nothing can beat what she wore at Cannes a year or two ago. What I thought was amazing in ‘Memoirs’ was that Going Li really did seem a lot younger in the movie than her age. Good actress. Zhang Ziyi is hot too.

I do know that Zhang Ziyi is none of my co-workers favorites. Having a ‘pure’ image is pretty important here, and they do all seem to go for the woman who could be the girl next door. Nonetheless, whatever they say about her, they do go to see her movies–and she is very good at action sequences. A remake of Seven Samurai is not probably going to endear her more to the Chinese either, but Chinese movie receipts are nil, and that’s if you’re lucky enough to get the movie allowed to play in China.

I’ll have to agree - the book itself is badly-written, although the plot is fun. It will lead a lot of Chinese to take a look at the real thing - the Bible itself, which is quite readily available in Chinese. The problem for the Chinese government is that a lot of Christians see the US as Jesusland (in a positive way) - which will cause loyalty issues for the government among those Chinese who do convert secretly.

    . . . Jesusland . . . that is quite a name. There should be a book called “Jesusland”.

The Da Vinci Code was already being shown in China when they suddenly banned any further showings. Now it is sure to be spread through pirate DVDs through out China — thanks to their reaction.

Actually, Hollywood productions are routinely pirated in China. Nothing special has to be done. Chinese are already watching video cam versions of DVC, as they would any other Hollywood production - even as it is being screened around the world.
