USFK’s latest police blotter special

by Robert Koehler on May 30, 2006

The Hanguk Ilbo reports that two U.S. servicemen have been booked—but not detained—on charges of a) stealing two bags from a Songpa-gu bar and b) assaulting the arresting officer with a beer bottle.

According to police, the two servicemen stole two bags—containing a grand total of 14,000 won, credit cards and an MP3 player—from a Sincheon-dong bar in the wee hours of the morning of Feb. 11 (yes, it’s only making the news now, probably thanks to a recent string of nonsense). They were making their get-away in a taxi, but the driver suspected something was up, so he tipped off the blue boys, fulfilling the mandatory taxi driver component of any GI crime. Anyway, an officer was sent to bring them in, but while he was making the arrest, the two struck him on his left arm with a beer bottle and kicked him in the knee and ankle, causing injuring from which it will take 2 weeks to recover. Or so they stand accused.

this comes within days of the reports on:
1. pointing guns at farmers
2. pollution on army bases

to include the anti foreigner articles on English Spectrum and English Village (which was just rehashed on KBS2, updated with the fact that the teacher did not have a four year degree, and said nothing of his gyopo status)

Anyway it’s world cup season (nationalism season), I can’t help but speculate they intentially dragged out a story from almost four months ago to get some more anti-foreign synergy going.

Can you say “ouri-dung”?

English teachers and Dough-boys, once again giving us hard working weagooks a bad name!

I dunno but some weagooks seem to think everyone in Korea is against them…
something of a conspiracy theory I suppose… but I tell you so that it is not true, try to get the “koreans against weagooks” thing off your mind.

Most likely they hate you because you are a dumb redneck and that is something that passes through the language barrier without being said.

That comment hit the bullseye. The related message board was filling up with anti-American froth.

Tae18222, My fine Japanese friend. I am not a redneck nor am I one of the louts over here that worries how people think of me. I treat everyone with due respect. I’m a golden rule person. My comment is simply this, When white people act like a$$holes in Korea, it places a patina on other well mannered white people. Oh and by the way, you have quite a few inakamonos come over and stay at the Lotte and treat the Koreans like dogs. Be careful of throwing stones!

I’m no fan of certain dumbass GIs bitch drunk in Itaewon or Hongdae fucking up my chill time on Friday nights, but I’m sick and tired of Koreans trying to use any negative exposure they are responsible for and branding them as a social issue. I am a Korean, and I was so ashamed at all those ignorant fucks waving candles in Jongro and causing shit to traffic a few years ago. I don’t understand why the majority of Koreans don’t understand that the presence of the US Army in Korea plays a substantial role in our current standard of living.

Tae is almost certainly an ethnic Korean. A Japanese wouldn’t get upset over foreigners complaining about xenophobia in Korea. Every once in awhile these young turks stumble upon the Marmot’s Hole and fire away responses to several threads.

Pass through the language barrier, my ass! Just check out what Koreans post on daum.net, news.naver.com etc. for more raw racism and xenophobia than you can shake a stick at. And then they turn around and have the gall to bitch about the U.S.’s visa waiver program requirements.
