Over at Asia Pages, Jodi discusses her impressions of Madame Butterfly, which, as you know, is playing at the Seoul Arts Center.
In her discussion, she mentions David Henry Hwang’s M. Butterfly, which was turned into a pretty decent film by, who else, David Cronenberg. Cronenberg, of course, is Canadian, a fact that is completely irrelevant to this post.
Anyway, this brings us to China Matters, who alerts us to an OSS report that Chinese intelligence—in quasi-M. Butterfly fashion—may have compromising photos of a drunken, teenage GW Bush, who is not Canadian, with his Chinese male tennis instructor (top of the hat to Simon World):
A major European intelligence service is absolutely convinced that when George Bush was a drunken teen-ager in Beijing with his father the Ambassador, the Chinese were able to arrange extraordinarily compromising photographs, including homosexual photographs with his Chinese male tennis teacher (the boy may have been so drunk he had no idea was what happending (sic).
Well, that would certainly explain some things, now wouldn’t it?
