Korean naval disadvantage could be good motivator

With Korean analysts predicting for the ROK Navy nothing but very ugly defeat at the hand of the JMSDF should the two sides come to blows over Dokdo, Mingi Hyun points out that the current naval gap isn’t all bad:

Of course, a numeric advantage alone will not determine the outcome of a battle between the ROKN and the JMSDF. It also matters how important the islets are to both countries, and whether a stronger seapower like Japan will be willing to devote much of its naval resources and risk the welfare of some of its expensive ships and fighter jets in a fight over the teeny tiny islets. After all, Japan does have bigger fish to fry in China.
Nevertheless, S. Koreans should be able to defend their own territory and deter potential aggressors without external assistance. For S. Koreans worried about a possible loss to the JMSDF, the current military disadvantage shouldn’t be reason for despair, but rather a platform to better prepare for an uncertain future, just as American navalists did for their country just over one hundred years ago.

I can’t believe military confrontation with Japan is still on the minds of media pundits, not to mention that it came up at all. Such an encounter is about as likely as one between the U.S. and Canada.

Japan is like the proverbial Korean hobak. Take a whack at it and POOF your floundering Uri party popularity soars. You take another whack at it and the defence spending rises. Nolbu sees what’s going on and takes a whack at it and a host of hanchongryun kids stream out and gambles away the house. He whacks another one and pops out Shintaro-kkebi Ishihara riding on a JSDF Yamato part Dos.

What I really worry about is the day when the hanchongryun kids start to place their “energies” on China, who has perhaps even larger and more “fervent” mob.
