I guess it’s a question of who you hate more

It’s interesting to observe the complex set of emotions at work in the comments section of Naver.com concerning the United States’ controversial 4-3 win over Japan

No not exactly. I think the overwhelming number of commentators think the “Yangkees” cheated Japan out of their rightful win - ala 2002 Winter Olympics Ohno incident. Here we go again, Jesus, it’s only a game.

What type of comments are being made? I realize I may be the abnormal one on this, but I can’t read any Korean and can hardly understand much spoken.

    Something like,

    ‘yangkees… no surprise’,

‘if Japan can be victimized like that, Korea watch out too’,

‘why is a US umpire umpiring in a US game?’,

‘it’s yangkees’ party so you didn’t have to watch what the result was going to be,
remember that they did the same thing to us not too long ago?’,

‘the umpire was also the extra US player’, ‘the umpire made the mistake, but I welcome the loss by Japan’,

‘the US was going to win no matter what, they’d call a hit by Japan, an out, they’d call a homerun a foul’.

    ‘I’ll take everything off for you, it’s really free, http://WWW.6 9 P O O N .CO.KR, 30 minutes free horny chatting.

If the United States rules the world, why did it lose to Canada? :)

This series has been a lot of fun–wish I could see more games. I didn’t know Italy and Holland had enough interest in the game to field decent teams.

The comments are not readily available for viewing you have to click “덧글열기” and that at the bottom of that click on “전체 의견 보기”. I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that people still watch baseball or the fact that it’s been turned into another reason to hate America.

    Somehow, cm overlooked these gems:

    “Conscienceless bastards…I’m sick of them!”

“I couldn’t be feeling better…because Japan lost and the U.S. is getting cursed!”

“The Yankee bastards are dirtier and crueler than the Jap bastards.”

Kind of makes you feel all warm and fuzzy…too bad more Koreans cannot express themselves better in English so we could all enjoy their ancient wisdom.

Sounds like some fans need to chill out with a frozen cabbage leaf under their caps a la 박명환.

Of course, the “Yankees and the monkeys are all the same” school of thought features quite prominently in the comments as well.
But then again, there are a couple of commenters asking the obvious, like:

그래도 미국뉴스는 심판비난하네.확실히 다르군.우린 월드컵때 아무도 심판판정에대해 보도하지않았는데

    Taken from this article.

Robert, you should actually reply back and point out the 1988 Roy Jones rip off of his gold medal boxing bout. Now that was clearly a bribe. I’d like to see what some of them have to say about that one.

Can’t wait for the US - Korea match. I wonder what controversy will follow. Korea just beat Mexico. It’s getting interesting.

Didn’t see the whole thing but it looked like Park Chan-ho just barely nailed that one. Maybe he’s better as a closer.

Okay, so the umpire makes a bad call at the top of the 8th. So what? Japan still had a chance to win it or at least go to extra innings.

    - top of the 9th, Japan loads the bases again, this time Lidge just struck Tamura out. Three guys stranded.

    - bottom of the 9th. 2 man on 1st and 2nd, Randy Winn bunts to advance the runner. Ogaswara forgets to put his foot on 1st base. Bases loaded, fielding error. A-Rod on deck.

    - A-Rod hits it down second base, goes through both 2nd baseman and Shortstop. Game over.

There were so many runners stranded on base, Japan could have beaten the US even before the call. And maybe if they haven’t lost to Korea earlier, Japan wouldn’t have to worry as much about advancing to the next round.

I cannot wait until tomorrow’s USA-Korea matchup. Fortunately for Byung-Hyun Kim, Scott Brosius and Paul O’Neill does not play baseball anymore. But Korea has to face a team with at least six players who can crush the ball. We’ll see how Korean pitching holds up. The last thing Korea needs to worry about is the quality of the hotels.

Btw, if Ichiro keeps playing at his current level, he’s gonna end up batting #2 or #3 with Nishioka leading.

I would bet that the Korean players want to beat the hell out of the U.S. team as a kind of calling card and demonstration as to why the U.S. teams should hire the same Korean players for the big bucks. :-)

I think the game was fair….. Yes the umpire’s call was disgusting but American team obviously played smart and better baseball than Japan did… None the less America is going to win this tournament anyway since they are so superior compare to other teams….. We koreans thank the American since they had done us a favor. If Japan defeated U.S. that could have been disasterous for us.

If Japan don’t advance they will blame everything on AMerica too won’t they?? AMerica better pray Japan beat Korea because if Korea beat Japan again…. Holy crap that would be hilarious……ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
