Yeah, some of those are real nice; but some are too urban for my taste.
My own favorite area to just drive around, for the beautiful scenery and
fascinating little-known places to discover has always been Yeongwol
County in Gangwon… Always a great pleasure.
The Gangwon region does have some nice areas to drive around–I like the road through Gangneung running south down the coast.
