False advertising?

Korea’s ever-vigilent Netizens were surprised to find Korean actress Song Hye-gyo’s picture being used in an advertisement for a Chinese “massage” service run in a U.S. newspaper. See below:

Dude, that’s sooo wrong. Song’s agent, however, is taking it all in stride, saying that the ad wasn’t worth responding to.

After all that surgery to to disguise her lack of talent and all those sexy poses to get Korean tenagers everywhere to ‘desire’ her, it has come to this! I call that justice.

Trust me as the consummate scholar of juicy girls, if you go to an “Asian,” “Japanese,” “Oriental,” or “Chinese” massage parlor in the States, you’re going to get a Korean hoe. Sort of like many of the “Chinese” and “Japanese” restaurants, like the one Alice Kim was supposedly working at? Mmmm….

The “Korean” label carries less than desirable connotations in the American psyche, so it is better to false advertise as one of the other Far East countries. The sleazy customers won’t know the difference or care, anyways–they all look the same and “massage” the same. Nationality only matters in this region.

    “Dude, that?? sooo wrong.”

Actually, the ad is sooo Hwang.

I’ll bet dollars to dimes Denver is like NYC in this regard. When I did some work with the Manhattan DA and NYPD Vice, one of the things I learned was that the “genuine” Chinese [and Japanese] whorehouses don’t advertise in English papers because they don’t want and won’t admit gwai-lo/gaijin johns. 95% of the working girls in the advertised Asian, Oriental, Chinese and Japanese brothels were Korean, with the remainder being a mix of Chinese, Japanese, Filipina, Thai, Vietnamese, etc. Most outside Chinatown, and excepting the real Japanese joints, which were controlled by Chinese or Japanese organized crime, respectively, were controlled by Mafia small fry/wannabees who had muscled in on entrepeneurial Korean “mama-sans” - though a few were run by Korean thugs who also ran a few very small radio-cab outfits. [The Korean gangs also had a strangehold on the Korean equivalent of the pure Chinese places - the all/only- Korean room-salons on 32nd Street and out in Queens that also didn't admit howlies, except as working girls, the Korean customers often having white, i.e., blond and redhead fever. Ditto for the "pure" Japanese places in Midtown.] And Mark is right, these places didn’t want to advertise as being Korean, because the owners were afraid that what they perceived to be the lingering negative association of Korea with the images thereof in the American popular mind - e.g., MASH - wouldn’t convey the right sort of Orientalist enticement to the target audience.

So it was fraud a la Hwang, the classic bait and switch, Korean style.

If there isn’t a huge market, then there will be no sellers. The meat market drives business. It’s no secret the number of males with ‘yellow fever’ who are desperately in need to buy sex to have sex with ‘exotic’ Asian females.

CM - another hypersensitive Korean or foreign fellow-traveller taking offense when none was given. No one but yourself has concocted the strawman that you are intent on torching. The only moralistic comment before yours was Mark’s reference to the “sleazy customers”; no one has blamed Korea or Koreans here. It was the netizens who opened up this topic by complaining about an ad that sullies Korea - an ad that undoubtedly was created, paid for and placed by a Korean. The simple fact is that there are a lot of Korean whores in the US. That there are more homegrown models doesn’t change that fact or excuse it, so grow up and stop trying to mollify Korean shame about it by pointing out the obvious.

It must be a terrible feeling to feel sexually attracted to what you profess to be repulsed by. If you’re so sure the ad was created by a Korean then I’m sure 95% of the drug pushers and drug addicts in Korea are Americans and Canadians. That’s a simple fact and a racial equality.

Mizar5, where is my “hateful, racist agenda”? I am curious. You took my ‘yellow fever’ comment as racist? Is it not true American and Canadian men slag their women as fat and unattractive and repulsive based on only looks? Is it not true many claim Asian women as the only pinacle of womenhood and sex? Is it not true many expats exclaim there’s nothing good about Korea other then money and hot women, and that they brag about how many they can bed down but they find that it’s repulsive to think about North American women?. Do you deny that there are people that can’t have relationships unless their partners are Asian women with the womens’ appearances being the central focus of attention? Then saying and claiming otherwise, pretending to be repulsed by all the whorism of Koreans (all the while getting a severe erection). All I do is shrug because all these are facts too.

Not sure about that, but 95 percent of American drug addicts in Korea may be English teachers. Just an aside.

If we’re talking about Korean ho’s overruning America, we should also talk about their smugglers. Already, the Korean mafia has been mentioned (which is correct). But what was conveniently left out is the fact lot of personnels in USFK are also taking the big cut for their ’services’. 85% of USFK-Korean marriages end up in failure in the long run. Why? Because 80% of the marriages are phony marriages paid by the pimps. I’d probably be accused of being ‘racist’ again.

“Then saying and claiming otherwise, pretending to be repulsed by all the whorism of Koreans (all the while getting a severe erection). All I do is shrug because all these are facts too.”

Hmmm..that sounds exactly like Korean men and their attitudes toward Japanese erotica. Don’t even try to deny this. Koreans love to place the onus of their own masturbatory fetishes on Japan’s porn and use it to claim “oh, look how morally degrading Japanes are! We Koreans are above that, thank god!”

Meanwhile, internet statistics show that almost 60% of all hits on dometic porn sites originate from the peninsula nearby. Furthermore, in a recent TV program where Korean males were shown pictures of various comely Japanese race queens but the nationality of the models was not revealed, an overwhelmingly 80% of Korean male particpants indicated their desire and preference for them. However, afterwards, when the nationality of the models were revealed, so many of the same morons who claimed they were crazy about jumping into bed with these models, thinking they were Korean, suddenly retracted statements saying “oh, actually I take it back..they look like cheap sluts.”

    Gotta love that Korean mind.

The biggest consumers of Japanese porn is the United States by far. It’s a ten billion dollar business in the US. 69% of the customers and 76% of the servers are located in North America which are devoted to Japanese porn. Search engines are filled with “Asian girls”, “Japanese school girls”. Just do a search yourself and type in “Japanese girls”. Those are the results you get. Go into some of the sites and it’s plainly evident which customers are targeted.

  23. Posted February 4, 2006 at 12:47 am | Permalink

    cm,

I have not done detailed study but saying that 76% of the servers are located in North America is stretched. They may carry several contents at the same time, “Japanese”,”Swedish”,”Italian”,”Russian”,”African”,etc to serve varying tastes of customers.

Your writing seems to suggest that the US is only going after Asian hotties, which is not true. Americans go for all kinds of women (and some go for men).

Looking at the recent trend from movies, American males are finally going after the last frontier, the black women. It was a sort of a Taboo for white men to lust after a black woman, but when all other races of women are explored, the only virgin territory left is a black woman.

So, if you are a female and want to attract a white man, go black! (and, you will never go back?)

  24. Mizar5 your flag
    Posted February 4, 2006 at 1:07 pm | Permalink

The fact that many American men now include Asian women among their sexual preferences generally a good sign of the general progress Asians have made there considering that back in the 1980s, white men wouldn’t even look at an Asian woman. The traditional preference for busty, leggy blondes remains dominant among the US male.

About the search engine results, three mitigating factors cast doubt on the “yellow fever” hypothesis.

First, it may well be that the majority of the hits may well be Asian Americans, much like how “Rain” debuted in NYC to an overwhelmingly Asian American audience. Second, Asian porn-related searches are just a tiny part of total online porn. Given that Americans have very eclectic tastes and that much online content is tied to sex anyway, “Asian” is probably just another convenient internet search phrase. Third, Asian porn peddlers have probably targeted the relatively freedom of the US internet to target market in the US.

But even if US males ever did come around to prefering our women over their own, what of it? Is that somehow evil? just don’t see what your point is.

Baduk is right. “Americans go for all kinds of women (and some go for men).” Chill out about the “yellow fever” thing. It makes Asian American guys look like whiney insecure wimps, which I certainly am not. Besides, you chould embrace a little interest because women are usually the first ambassadors to widespread acceptance. Note how black women anchorwomen paved the way for the great black male leads like Will Smith. The same thing is happening with Asian Americans.

To chill you out, here’s a generally excellent American blog that provides links to all sorts of informational sites interspersed with “eye candy”. You’ll note the continued preference for big-busted Caucasian women and only the occassional inclusion of Asian women - 3 out of 16 by my count.

    cm,

I don’t see “yellow fever” in the mainstream US society. I belive the whole bru-ha-ha started like this.

In San Francisco, there are a relatively large Asian population, mostly Chinese, and the universities in that area are heavily populated with Asian females. Since men go after what they see, many white males are attracted to AsianAmerican co-eds.

Of course, there is the other “yellow fever” where recent immigrants from Korea and the Phillippines engage in sex trade to survive in the US.

Yellow fever does not exist in the main stream US society.
