Blogging note

It might take me a little more time than I thought to move to the new site, so I’ll probably be using Typepad for the next couple of days, at least.  On a positive note, I did manage to move all my archives over to Typepad, so search away.

Oh, and yes, I’m changing the name of the blog to something a bit more "Korea-centric."  The name above is the tentative selection.  I’ll take suggestions, as long as they’re made politely.

My only suggestion is, nothing that begins with “Land of the Morning…” Good luck on your switchover Mr. Marmot.

“From the Yalu to the Nakdong”

Sounds like a title of a fictitious Chinese invasion.

How about “From the Halla to the Paekdu”?

I might stay away from anything connected with the Chosun Ilbo or Marmot, but reversing the names of the rivers, i.e., “From the Nakdong to the Yalu,” might not be such a bad idea.

The site is large enough now that you probably wouldn’t need to worry about marketing. And you’ve decided to use your name instead of the title, so that frees us up a bit.

I’m glad you liked “Monster Island,” but it should be written out in all its glory: “Monster Island (actually a peninsula).”

For those who don’t know, this is a Simpsons reference. In “Lisa on Ice,” the straight-A student Lisa worries about failing P.E.

    LISA
I have to join the team or I’ll get an F that will haunt me for the rest of my life.

[Lisa imagines here future, where her future self is being sworn in as President of the United States]

    CHIEF JUSTICE
I now pronounce you President of these United –

    REPORTER
Stop the inauguration! I just discovered our President-Elect got an F in second grade gym class!

[The crowd gasps and the future Lisa is handcuffed.]

    CHIEF JUSTICE
[with serious look] In that case I sentence you to a lifetime of horror on… Monster Island.

[He then whispers to her.] Don’t worry, it’s just a name.

[We suddenly see future Lisa and others are chased by fire-breathing monsters]

    LISA
[while running in horror, is shouting toward a man running alongside her] He said it was just a name!

    MAN
What he meant is that Monster Island is actually a peninsula.

I just love that (it’s better when you see it than if someone describes it), and it’s a great name, given some of the incidents and attitudes and everything, plus the fact that Korea is actually a peninsula.

    how about that?

Regardless, “Koehler’s Korea” is the key. It’s exactly what the blog needs (esp. given the new address). Whenever I name something like a blog, I think about, “How would it sound in the following sentence: ‘Yeah, I saw that on….”

Whenever I name something like a blog, I think about, “How would it sound in the following sentence: ‘Yeah, I saw that on….”

In that sense, Shelton, I think Koehler’s Korea works. But if something sufficiently succinct but in-the-know clever can be found, that might be better. Like Marmot. Just how on Earth did Koehler become the Marmot. Are there other Marmot’s? Should we expect the world’s first marmot-to-marmot dynasty transfer anytime in the future?
