Plunge returns!

The always insightful Plunge (the man who pretty much put this blog on the map) has resumed blogging.  If you’ve never read his work before, be sure to check out his site now, and update your blog lists accordingly.

Will he be renewing his calls for more nukes to be dropped on Japan?

This post is yet another example of the Marmot’s bias.

Well, then, I’ll even out the score by letting loose one of my long-held beliefs that I’m guessing runs counter to what you assume my biases to be:

I have never been convinced that the decision to drop two nukes on Japanese civilians was justified.

[About Marmot's alleged bias here: Given that Plunge helped put Marmot on the map, it hardly seems bias to propagate praise for Plunge for pontificating again. Somebody said your blog is listed in his role, though Shakuhachi's is not. Given your similar views on Korea-Japan issues, I don't really see bias against pro-Imperial/colonial views of Korean history? Maybe Shakuhachi's is not listed because of the tone or the highly contentious ??? of the posts or the comments there, whereas your blog is much more civil. You may then suggest that Marmot is being biased by listing the less edgy one, but I would say that it is you who are biased by not using your blog to its full pro-colonial potential. ;) ]

    Kushibo,

    Plunge’s blog is not “edgy”?

I have my biases, just like you and everyone else. Maybe it is bias to think that the Marmot is Korea-biased, but my biased mind tells me that Plunge’s blog is Korea-biased, and Shakuhachi’s blog is Japan-biased. The Marmot promotes Plunge’s blog, but refuses to list Shakuhachi’s blog, which is fine, but let’s just stop pretending that the Marmot lists links without bias.

By the way, I am not sure I understand your comment about my bias being my not using my blog to “its full pro-colonial potential”? If you are suggesting that I do not post enough about the bad aspects of Korea’s colonial period, then you are right. One of the reasons for that is that I almost always post in reaction to articles I read in the Korean press, which means I do not usually have to worry about presenting the bad aspects of the period. Another reason is that I am not sure what the bad aspects were.

I have learned to be suspicious of the Korean press, especially when they report on Japan and the US. I am also suspicous of Korean historians, who tend to be very nationalistic.

This is how I see it. If the Korean media, the Korean government, and the Korean people can make a hero out of a liar like Dr. Hwang Woo-suk and portray a tragic traffic accident as a deliberate act of murder, then why couldn’t they have also portrayed Korea’s colonial period as something that it wasn’t?

I think that Koreans generally believe in the idea, “The end justifies the means,” which can be interpreted to mean, “If it helps the nation, then it is all right to exaggerate, forget to mention, and lie about certain aspects of history.”

Heres a thought, maybe Occidentalism isn’t listed at the Marmot’s not because of its bias, but because the entire blog is one unceasing monomaniacal tirade against anything Korean. General pettiness, deliberately incindiary posts about Korean women, and the thinly veiled passive-aggressive commenters doesn’t create edgy blog, it makes garbage.

Dude, the problem is not that Japan already got hit with two nukes, but that plunge has advocated that it be hit with 4 or 5 more, not in 1945, but in 2005! Also that the Japanese prime minister should bow down on his hands and knees and beg forgiveness of the Korean president and the ‘comfort women’ (According to plunge, they still shouldnt forgive the Japanese, thus the 4 or 5 more nukes above).

Occidentalism takes on controversial issues, true, but you wont find anything advocating violence against Koreans. Meanwhile, Plunge is a practitioner of race hate against Japanese people. I would hate to be a Japanese alone on the same elevator as him.

If were to see that, I would take him to task for that, but I’m not about to take the word of Shakuhachi for it alone that the content and the context you describe are both accurate. Do you have a link?

I don’t necessarily agree with a grand, unequivocal gesture (though that above might be a tad extreme), but the nuking would be absolutely uncalled for.

Occidentalism takes on controversial issues, true, but you wont find anything advocating violence against Koreans.

    Just hatred, not violence.

How many of your posts start with , “Here’s something from a couple years/months ago…”? Your blog is about rehashing your pet peeves against Koreans, Chinese, Blacks, etc. as you have caricatured these people in your mind.

Meanwhile, Plunge is a practitioner of race hate against Japanese people. I would hate to be a Japanese alone on the same elevator as him.

Again, I’d have to see some links on it. Here, in the “Plunge returns!” post, is the perfect place to make a case against him. Marmot took down the link to the pedophilic pedagogist, so maybe he’ll do the same with Plunge if the case you’re making is as you say.

Yeah, I’d like to see where I advocated nuking Japan today as well.

I take Japan to task over things where I feel they are making a mistake. Most of that deals with how they handle their past, the colonization period, war period and the like. I like to point out the arrogance and hypocracy that exists there.

Personally, I feel Japan is the best nation to ‘lead’ Asia, if a leader is necessary. But in order to do so, they need to start acting like a leader. Too many times, Japan’s worst enemy in this is itself.

I did see where you wrote that.

He wrote it somewhere, either on his site or the comments section of another site. In any case, Plunges site is discussed extensively here in occidentalisms comments section. Plunge had to clean up his posts and start attributing things to their actual authors after I exposed his plagiarism.

Excuse me? I’ve always attributed things where they came from. Sometimes at the end or the beginning. I’ve also said I’m writing things that interest me and I’m not writing research papers for school. So, I don’t do footnotes or the like.

Next, either show where I’ve advocated nuking Japan in the modern day or just shut the hell up. I’ve never advocated that. If something like that was written, it was by someone stealing my nick.

Finally, shakuhachi, I have no idea who the hell you are and to think that your comments have affected the way or what I write is ridiculous.

No, he did not. He drew a line through it, but if you hold your cursor over it and click, you will be taken to that site. Well, there must be some reason he linked to it and keeps the link there.

About the profiles, will you be taking my word for it, or will you require a link?

I agree that Shakuhachi’s blog is full of hatemongering. Many of the posters there are banned from posting anywhere that is taken seriously. I would be very embarrassed if any of my Korean friends stumbled across his site and saw the misrepresentations there.

I distinctly remember your cyworld homepage and I’m sure most old posters here do also. Remember that childish post you put up in crude Korean about whipping some Korean-American’s ass in a debate? I thought that post of yours pretty much summed up your level of maturity.

Hmm, so what? When will we see Juan (?) have the guts to post some personal info about himself? Until you do that you are just an anonymous person that has been trounced time and time again in debate sniping from the shadows.

What exactly will you throw back at me?

  26. Posted January 23, 2006 at 3:21 pm | Permalink

Tut tut, Juan is pronounced ? not ?. No hablas espanol? Always making a fool of yourself while blundering through the comment section. I don’t need to throw back anything at you, your own comments do a fine job. It’s called digging your own grave. Oh yeah, and thank you for showing us your pics on your cyworld homepage. Now we know what an actual hypocritical hatemonger looks like.

I am talking about your real name, not your assumed Spanish name, kyopo. Hypocritical is you, not me. I am consistent - I have never presented a different face from the one I show here. Let us see your photo - we want to see what an intellectual midget kyopo looks like.

My mistake, I forgot the saying “Don’t teach pigs to sing.”

And guys my name’s Juan in English/Spanish and ? in Korean. Don’t belive this slander about ? ;-) But I do wish I had some more ?(W)s in my pocket. Maybe if I had the talent like shak to just “assume” that there were loads of ? in my pocket.

This thread has deteriorated to the point where it is probably non-salvageable. I had hoped to see a spirited discussion of whether Plunge was worthy of being on the blog roll, but I guess that isn’t going to happen.

    Anyway…
Marmot took down the link to the pedophilic pedagogist, so maybe he’ll do the same with Plunge if the case you’re making is as you say.

No, he did not. He drew a line through it, but if you hold your cursor over it and click, you will be taken to that site. Well, there must be some reason he linked to it and keeps the link there.

Perhaps I didn’t write clearly: he took down the link to the pedophilic pedagogist from the blog roll. The blog roll that appears every time you go down the Marmot’s Hole (I get a lot of hits from the blog rolls).

Yeah, in the original post the link is still there (and perhaps it should be, since it is the topic of discussion), but that would be for only for people who are looking for it, at this point; it’s no longer there for someone to stumble across.

Anyway, my point still remains: if a strong case is made against a blog listed in the blog roll, Marmot has taken these things into consideration in the past.

Bratwurstest, I’m in a public place, so I’m afraid to open what you linked, but let’s give it a rest. Most of the last several posts have nothing to do with Plunge returning but they have gone dangerously close to public lynchings (figuratively speaking).

  37. Posted January 24, 2006 at 11:58 am | Permalink

Interesting that this is bratwurstest’s first post. Obviously just a troll with multiple accounts trying to drum up an illusion of support. By the way, the link he posted is also on my blog, so I am in no way busted for anything, and I would actually prefer that people view it to see the truth rather than the false way he has presented it.
