Mizar5, that was a disgusting link indeed you left. I guess Buddhism in Korea does have some serious problems, especially when some group like "One Korea Buddhist Movement" is out here.

I think this would lead to "obvious and extensive scrutiny of research submitted by Korean research teams," at least for that journal. Won't get fooled again.

We're supposed to hear soon what measures the Korean gov't will take, and they had better be very good ones if local scientists and universities want credibility.

Good comment, Kushibo.

Here's a sad commment on the state of Buddhism in our country today. I have severed my ties to Korean Buddhism due to the fact that Korean Buddhists violate the precepts of non attachment in their race to emrace jingoism.

Michael, that would seem to be addressing the problems with Schatten, not Hwang.

The external (i.e., non-Korean) impetus that would effect a change in internal (i.e., domestic Korean) scientific practices would be obvious and extensive scrutiny of research submitted by Korean research teams. When schools and institutions find that their works are not being accepted because this or that is not right, some of them will get the message and make sure they get it right.

At least one good thing has come out of the Hwang farce:

In the wake of the two fraudulent articles on embryonic stem cells published in Science by the South Korean researcher Hwang Woo Suk, Donald Kennedy, the journal's editor, said last week that he would consider adding new requirements that authors "detail their specific contributions to the research submitted," and sign statements that they agree with the conclusions of their article.

Hwang's already a drama queen--him and Roh Sungil could team up and do a kind of Martin & Lewis act, play the casinos...might be a hit!

Well hiring dr.hwang would add publicity to any employer's business...and you know what they say in hollywood, "any publicity is good publicity." maybe he should be an actor instead.

The funny thing is Evil Dr.Hwang's crazy followers still think A) he is free to go to any country he wants, and research B) all the other countries except Korea are dying to reaserch stem cells with Dr.Hwang. Dr.Hwang was almost deprived of his professor job when his sexual harrassment comments became an issue in 2000, but he escaped the charges on account of his connections with poweful people. Dr.Hwang is known that he has openly talked about his strong connections with powerful people.
He made many many sexual harrasment comments during his class. This is one of his harrasment comments:
<a href="http://news.media.daum.net/edition/affairs/200601/16/ohmynews/v11406759.html?_right_TOPIC=R1" rel="nofollow">http://news.media.daum.net/edition/affairs/200601/16/ohmynews/v11406759.html?_right_TOPIC=R1</a>
While he demonstrated the origin of Dolly the sheep in his class, he describe "Dolly Parton"(because the two has the same name) by saying "Her(Dolly Parton)'s tits are too big that the tits are even hitting her eyes." with his hands, shaping Ms.Parton's body in the air nastly and graphically. If major news media abroad decide to put this facts in their newspapers and broadcast programs, maybe Dolly Parton will sue Dr.Hwang for his sexual harrasment comment about her. I am happy to see that Evil Dr.Hwang's ambitions are coming to an end. One of Dr.Hwang's ambitions was to become President of South Korea. Eweeee, a big chill!

<strong>dr hwang gets a job offer</strong>

A scientific organization would have to be nuts to offer a position to disgraced South Korean scientist and cloning fraudster Hwang Woo-suk. The doctor is fortunate then that there happen to be a bunch of crazies that run what
