I’m sure that the Marmot would be all over this if he wasn’t busy following the Dear Leader across China right now (or maybe it’s Osan). If the Marmot is reading this, he should feel free to add to or edit this post as he sees fit.
The Mongolian government has fallen. The Parliament has voted to dissolved itself by a vote of 39-0 with 37 abstentions (NOTE: That sounds like a Korean legislative vote.). Following a defection of one parliamentarian from the Democratic Party to the former communist party, the commies decided to leave the governing coalition in a bid to take more power for themselves. The move has set off protests:
Following a defection by a democratic member of parliament to the MPRP [Mongolian People??s Revolutionary Party] last week, the MPRP decided to leave the coalition government. The MPRP members of the Prime Minister’s cabinet resigned, forcing a constitutional resignation of the government. The MPRP has delcared that all previous agreements for power-sharing are now off, and they have the necessary seats in parliament to form a new government on their own.
Thousands of Mongolians protested in the central capital today, and the parliament is scheduled to meet in a special session to decide whether to accept the resignations.
Hundreds of police and military surrounded the parliament building, inside and outside, to guard against possible violence from protesters.
On the streets the words of protest are thick. While many people have voiced some support for the MPRP’s move to solidify power and their stated purpose to organize the government more effectively, others are protesting what they see as the MPRP’s move to push opposition parties from power, or positions of influence. As one American who was present reported, there was even talk among some of the protesters of civil war.
Hat tip to Registan.

With the former communist party in power, does this mean any realignment of what seems to have been a pro-Washington orientation lately?
More to the point, would that party be more likely to become pro-Beijing, or is the theft of Inner Mongolia just too much for even Mongolia’s reds to take?
I must admit that I know very little about Mongolian politics.
Kushi,
I’m no expert either but, from what I gather, Mongolia’s basic geo-political stance (trying not to offend Moscow or Beijing while getting as close to Washington as possible) will not change under any party.
I don’t think that even the Communist party would become pro-Beijing. But then again as long as there’s aid money involved they can be pro-anybody even if it is him the devil. MPRP and Mr.President Enkhbayar are being the assholes of Mongolia ,shitting all over on everybody. On the other hand Democratic Party lost it’s power to act as a Party since they can’t get along with each other and bunch of dicks lacking balls,(MPRP cut their balls off or bought them) giving the perfect opportunity to MPRP to turn Mongolia into a very “RED” shitty-ger. I don’t know who to blame really. When some of the Democrats helping MPRP, when the 10 Ministers (all Commies) resigned, Parliament Members had to vote whether to keep the current Government MPRP needed 10 more votes from other parties and 5 of the voters were DP members, who 3 of them were the one’s actually were fighting against communism in 1990, If I remember correctly. But seems like people of Mongolia are totally against MPRP and it kind of showed when the protesters broke into Communist Party headquarter broke their windows and burnt their flag also took some whiskey from the duty free shop along the way:)(There’s a Duty Free Shop on the 1st floor of CommiParty building). Then MPRP paid or forced government workers and students to protest against the anti-MPRP demonstration. Some people fear that there might be a civil war or something like that, I hope not,
but who knows civil war can easily happen if one can get:Chinggis vodka with a touch of weed + some 2000 angry desperate Mongolians tired of any kind of shit+and some Kalashnikovs, or Marmot hunting guns which most of them are Kalashnikovs:)
I am not very fond of the recently ex-ed Prime Minister Ts.Elbegdorj, who was giving occasinal bj for MPRP but at least he isn’t a commi or a coward like some other Democrats.
And I apologize for my foul language. Not the Marmot’s fault.
all Schatten’s fault
That theivin’ Schatten! (see Dramman)You know, Rhesus, rhesus monkeys saved my life as an infant, otherwise it would be in rhesus pieces…
But that’s another story that has to do with the RH factor in blood.
I kind of liked the apology for foul language. This guy’s got a kind of Tourette Syndrome that causes him to constantly apologize.
