On the other hand, it is perfectly possible to eat even a light punch on the jaw (as Nakao did) and go lights out. Certainly the circumstances are strange, but such things seem to happen in MMA. I mean, I saw Kevin Randleman, the wrestler, knock out Mirko Cro Cop, the kickboxer, with a left hook in a stand-up fight in Pride Total Elimination 2004 (the same card saw Sammy Schilt win with an arm-bar), so... anything is possible. … react to the blows that land on their head

If Nakao was not expecting it then it wouldn't take much of a punch to knock him out.
