How NOT to win fights in K1

This (.wmv file) was probably not Nakao Yoshihiro’s finest moment.

I bet he won’t ever do that again.

Heh. Looks like the other fighter was a little homophobic. :-)

Great find, Robert…this is one of those moments that needs to be immortalized. I watched this whole series of matches and when I saw this, I couldn’t believe it was happening…hilarious!

Actually, Nomad, I can’t claim credit for finding it. One of my coworkers emailed it to me on Sunday. It does merit immortalization, though.

The guilty guy was the jap but the other guy was dusqualified and still there were people booing him and attacking him. Does it make sense?

that japanese guy deserved to get knocked out. that type of behavior is unacceptable in the ring. and what a p*ssy to collapse from that light of a punch.

I saw this “fight” at the time. Surely it isn’t possible to get knocked out by such a soft blow. Isn’t it possible that the Japanese guy was just trying to duck the fight? After all, that American bloke is pretty damn hard.

Since the trackback isn’t working for me, here is the manual link.

When fighters get it on in the ring they are prepared for and react to the blows that land on their head…they are also able to deflect and absorb a lot of most punches….Did you see the way Nakao’s head turned…Your neck can only turn so far before the stress causes a blackout. If Nakao was not expecting it then it wouldn’t take much of a punch to knock him out. He obviously didn’t even see it coming…Herring didn’t even ‘wind up’ and give him time to react….there was no faking goin on there…
    great clip though…made my day

… react to the blows that land on their head

On the one hand, this is Japan, the land of worked fights.

On the other hand, it is perfectly possible to eat even a light punch on the jaw (as Nakao did) and go lights out.

Certainly the circumstances are strange, but such things seem to happen in MMA. I mean, I saw Kevin Randleman, the wrestler, knock out Mirko Cro Cop, the kickboxer, with a left hook in a stand-up fight in Pride Total Elimination 2004 (the same card saw Sammy Schilt win with an arm-bar), so… anything is possible.

    The long kiss goodnight

Yeah baby! The Marmot (bless his soul) found a movie clip which shows the kiss and subsequent knockdown during the recent K-1 matches I was watching. Truly one of the more bizarre things I’ve ever seen…

Note: Kissing is NOT a legal submission hold in K-1

The immortal Ric Flair sometimes refers to himself as a ‘limousine-riding, jet-flying,kiss-stealing, wheeling-dealing son of a gun.’ Well, it seems that Nakao Yoshihiro decided to take a a page out of Flair’s book and steal a little kiss of his
