You really should add http://www.occidentalism.org
I agree Occidentalism is a pretty good read. Wild Korea is a pretty good link as well.
I checked out the Yankee Aneiyo! site. Although most of if is semi-interesting the guy mentions at least once a month about his interest in molesting little Korean girls. Very disturbing.
I don’t mind reading Korean blogs about the differences in our 2 cultures - usually humorous. But I gotta draw the line with the whole child molestation thing. Thats not cool or funny. Consider removing the link to his site.

I didn’t see anything of that nature–if you could link to what you’re talking about, I’d appreciate it.

I just took a quick glance at the site, so I don’t know if the “at least once a month” description is apt, but here is one mention of “child pornography”:This past week my friend Mr. K. came to visit me in Korea. At first Yumi hated him a great deal, due to things like him giving me what was essentially child pornography (a magazine of fully clothed 11 year old Japanese pop stars posing eroticly in bathing suits) in front of her.Whether eleven years old or twenty-one years old, how can one be “fully clothed” while “posing erotically in bathing suits”?
It’s not clear the ages of the “girls” he’s talking about, but there’s also this:My original plan after being promoted was to fire all the foriegners for being Canadians and to fire all the Korean girls for not having asked me to molest them (I wouldn’t have since I’m spoken for, but still it would be nice to get asked).
Re: Yankee Aneiyo!
The part where he mentions that little girls being run over by a tank is sexy… pure Oscar Wilde.
“Yankee Anieyo” is just another underinformed white guy who’s learned a couple of Korean phrases prattling on about his new-found Korean girlfriend. You already have Shelton for that. Go ahead, link to Occidentalism. You know you want to.

Whiskey Tango Fuck?! Does he really?

From the looks of it, I would never put Shelton and the Yankee Aneiyo guy in the same category.
“Whiskey Tango Fuck?! Does he really?”
OK, I took it a bit out of context on that quote, from Nov 2003, which actually reads:
“…Running an adolescent girl over with a tank, while moderately sexy, is clearly wrong…”
This quote, however, I’m not quite sure how to digest (from Oct 2003):
“One of my classes, is so great. It’s filled with adorable little girls. They’re so cute, I just want to molest their little vaginas.”
Am I getting old and somehow missing the humour here?
Am I getting old and somehow missing the humour here?
No, Pyotr. That sounds like some messed-up shit.
Both those quotes.
Hey, what’s this with email addresses being linked? This never happened before. Is there any way of undoing this before the spiders come??
I think the email address shows up if you don’t put anything in the URL space.
Quoting “Asians are sex objects”:
Rubbing butts or not, many of my students are quite sexy. And I know I’m probably going to get flak for saying that 12 year old girls are sexy, but they don’t look any different from the 20 year old girls. Every girl in this country looks like she’s about 16.
Since I came here I’ve been underguessing girls’ ages by about a decade. But anyhow, many of my students are quite sexy. And I suspect that some of them have crushes on me. The more developed students will always raise their hands and volunteer or ask me if I’m married or have a girlfriend. Needless to say, the idea of young girls on the threshhold of pubescence discovering their bodies while thinking of me pleases me quite a bit.
An awkward moment came the other day when I was talking with teachers and they started talking about which students they thought were cute. They were all naming 5 and 6 year old kids and when they asked me I started naming the more sexually developed girls. From “Panties”:The other day in class I had to teach my students various clothing words. One of these words was panties. Apparently they’re familiar with the term in Korea, because everytime it came up all the boys started laughing uncontrollably. This upset me, as it interfered with my plans to make various female students describe their panties (when is the next time a lesson plan will allow for me to do that?) Luckly I got little Judy to talk about her panties for a little while. From “Eric-Teacher, are you married?”:I’m a little disapointed that my students are so young, as I was planning on being sexually attracted to them (although I still am to some of them)All this is from just one page. There’s far less tame stuff on this blog.
IMHO, not only should this guy not be on your blog roll, he shouldn’t be anywhere near underage children.
OK, point made abudantly clear–being removed from sidebar.
Marmot, dude, put in the link to occidentalism.
Occidentalism is provocative and consistently argued, but it draws the worst of the worst trolls — folks who almost make the Marmot’s leading ethno-troll, Nulji, seem sagacious and statesmanlike.
While Occidentalism sometimes has amusing stories, the dude running it sometimes seems a little “overworked” judging from his commentary and responses.
Maybe, in the interests of quality control at this site, it would be better not to link it - although if you’re partial to collecting things that sort of match, possibly quality is not too much of a concern.
Whatever - it’s your site and I enjoy visiting it and another link to fluff in the sidebars won’t put me off.
All the best!

Its true that Occidentalism gets trolled, although I do my best to crack down on it. I have just brought in a new no tolerance policy, and am in the process of writing rules for commenting in addition to the existing FAQ page.
I like Occidentalism because Matt tackles Japanese-Korean issues, which the Marmot tends to avoid or comment about only briefly. Matt is also less cautious in questioning Korean claims on such issues as Dokdo, Japanese history books, and Korea’s colonial period. However, probably what I like best about Matt’s site is that he has some interesting Japanese commenters, who take the time to explain Japan’s perspective on the issues.
Yes, I think Matt gets carried away sometimes, and seems to tolerant a couple of posters who are a little too enthusiatic in their criticism of Korea, but I think Matt is generally fair.
Having said that, I do not think people should be pressuring the Marmot to add Occidentalism to his blog list. This is the Marmot’s blog, and he has his own standards for adding links, which people should respect. Occidentalism may not meet Marmot’s standards now, but it may in the future. In the meantime, why can’t people just add Matt’s site to their personal Favorites list?
I agree. Marmot should link whatever sites he wants to. Personally, I read marmots blog because it is marmots blog. I also enjoy it when marmot editorializes, even if I dont always agree (although I often do). Being exposed to different and diverse points of view is one of the great things about the blogosphere.
True, shakuhachi. Were it not for the plug of “Yankee Anieyo”, I for one never would have been exposed to the seamy side of English editing/teaching. Perhaps my earlier criticism of SBS was too harsh.
“March 12, 2005
Young Girls, I don’t care what they say, I want to have you each and every day.
One of my favorite Kindergarteners recently left my school. She spoke very little English and never paid attention in class. Often while I was teaching, she would get up and walk around the room or climb on the desk. But she was the most adorable little girl in the world.
The first day I taught her she was a new student, so I was focusing on her throughout the class. While teaching I kept prompting her and looking at her paper to see if she was doing work. But she didn’t say a thing and instead of paying attention or writing, she just looked around the room and occasionally doodled. While I was talking to her and trying to get her to do her work, she finally said something in English to me, “Teacher face is egg face,” referring to the ovular shape of my head.
Her parents knew how little girls should dress and dressed her appropriately. Everyday she wore a dress or skirt, because pants are unladylike. And she wore tiny versions of those ridiculous boots that grown-up Korean girls always wear (because Asian women realize that dressing like a cowboy is pretty sexy) And she always came to class with a velvet bow adroning her hair.
The wonderful thing about little girls is that just by looking at them, one can tell which ones will be beautiful when they grow up. And in about 10 years, little Jessica will stop being a cute little girl and will become an incredible piece of ass. So whenever she was unselfconsciously climbing about in her little skirt, exposing more of herself than an adult would ever dare, I just imagined the day when she would be a beautiful young woman and guys would have to pay money to see what she was freely showing the world in my class.
And now my little Jessica has gone away from me, which will make my classes easier to teach, but is saddening nonetheless.

Your friend’s a real class act. Compared to that, Occidentalism is clearly too provocative.
After spending a few minutes reading most of Yankee Anieyo, I think the humor is fairly clear. In the vein of Sexy Losers.
Not that I think it needs to be linked to the Marmot.
Strange how running a line through a link doesn’t actually remove it.
Oh and yeah, very clear humor about little girls’ private parts. So funny I forgot to laugh
Funny how sarcasm (much like hysteria) does nothing to strengthen one’s arguments.
“Oh, and yeah, Mr. Swift, very clear humor about eating Irish babies. So funny I forgot to laugh.”
2 cents,
From what I’ve read, the pedophilic comments are a bit too thought through, too pervasive, and too high-profile for one to believe it’s mere humor and not clearly reflective of what’s actually going on in his twisted mind. This is not funny stuff, although he seems to try to use humor to temper for the reader what are some extremely obnoxious thoughts. This man should not be anywhere near underage children.
I wonder how he knows Marmot.
And again, learn to use sarcasm properly before blaming your audience.
Mr Marmot, perhaps you may consider linking to the obviously not so obviously humerous “Yankee Aneiyo!” in your sidebar, but make sure to retain the line through it so as to remind readers what is off-limits.
My 2 cents…I thought the “Yankee Aneiyo!” site was really funny, and the stuff about girls obviously not serious. Really enjoyed the site, and read the whole thing. His comments on Canadians are dead-on.
I don’t want to sound proprietary about a really common name, but the comment above was not by the “Michael” who comments here frequently because he’s bored at work. Did that make any sense?
